Last year and the year before I spent a considerable amount of time in the area. Looks like starting in May I will be going back up as I just re-inherited the north area's. I always hear this stuff on both TV and both Radio stations.

No one should take pride in a thing. People should only be concerned with how well the city and province serves you.

I don't like that Edmonton powers the economy of the province, and Klein directed all of the money to Calgary.

But oh well, Calgary is a nice city now and Edmonton struggles to clean up the dirt every spring. Edmonton should just push the dirt into all the pot holes.

^ it isn't nearly the same as I mentioned in the thread about the arena. I grew up in Calgary and didn't move to Edmonton until high school.

And this is hardly "light ribbing" but more like full on hate which I never got even when I lived in Calgary. Edmonton is nothing like that.

And dumping on either city is just stupid and a waste of time.

There are positives and negatives for both cities and they really are not that different form each other. Both cities combined are hardly equal to many real world class cities and that is where the focus should be IMO.

I re-read the thread and fail to see where there's full on hate for Edmonton. There's a lot of corrections to misconceptions about why Edmonton is the capital, population comparisons, and how Edmonton has an awesome mall for kids.

Edmonton has so much more culture than Calgary. Just hit up Heritage days during August long. 400 000 people, 160+ countries showcased, it's awesome. Sure it sucks during the Winter, but during the summer there is a lot more going on. Now there are things I love about Calgary too but Edmonton isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Calgary almost feels like a fly by night city now, not a huge sense of community.

Growing up in Red Deer, while living in both Edmonton and Calgary here is my opinion:

Edmontonians don't hate Calgarians/Calgary, but merely make jokes.

Calgarians hate Edmontonians/Edmonton, with a passion.

Obviously not everyone fits the bill on either side but in my general opinion Edmonton doesn't really care for Calgary but Calgary HATES Edmonton.
