So will it be a Moto360 with official Tag face and a face bracelet?

Smart watches are silly. Name brand smart watches are even sillier.

Here's what I'm looking forward to from Basel:

haha I like both brands equally.

What's awesome about this watch is that it's got an in house skeleton movement, and they're targeting a $5k MSRP, which is unheard of for something like this.

That was a terrible release conference. That old man should have retired years ago. What the heck was he talking about connecting a keyboard and mouse to your watch? lol

Very underwhelmed. In the style department it looks no different than a gen 2 360 with a rubber band. That with the lack of a Heart Rate Monitor makes the price tag ridiculous.

I was looking forward to this even at the rumored price but i figured it would offer more than a mid range smartwatch with the tag name on it.

That old man is JC Biver, and aside from Nicolas Hayek, probably one of the top watch leaders in the industry. Guy revived several dead brands and made them huge today. Super approachable guy too, I emailed him directly to get him to build me a custom Hublot years ago. He's known for answering every email that comes his way from his customers. But you can only say so much about a POS... smart watches from a swiss watch brand is silly. Just like those stupid TAG cell phones.

Pretty cool to see Hodinkee Ben Clymer doing the press conference, I met him in NY a couple years ago. Super cool guy, great blog to read for watch nerds.

Fair enough. He might be one of the best when it comes to mechanical watches, he just doesn't seem like the guy that should be leading the company's first smart watch. I just found the whole presentation to be a bit of a mess.

Also I found it rather odd when he brought out the huge wheel of cheese. Is this a normal occurrence in watch releases? I was expecting him to give them sample watches, not a slice of cheese haha.

Yea, they shouldn't be making smart watches period. The presentation is a mess because it's a terrible product. From the looks of it, they're trying to attract new owners to these premium watches in hopes that they move up to mechanical watches.

As for the cheese thing, Biver owns a farm and makes some pretty famous cheese. He offered me a wheel when I got my watch made, but Canada has crazy restrictions on cheese imports and couldn't be done. Funny enough, that's how I learned about our dairy cartel. At some point, if I ever visit Switzerland, I'll cash in my cheese raincheck and bring a wheel back.

But yea, for anyone that doesn't know about it, it's completely fucking random.

Quite interested at the dairy cartel story. Will have to google that.

Not much of a story, just that all dairy imports is highly regulated and only certain farms are allowed to import dairy products. It's why dairy is so fucking expensive in Canada, and we don't get much fancy cheeses here.

Biver couldn't ship it to me because he needed a Canadian dairy import license (which is impossible to get). Only way would be me picking it up in person and coming back with it, and even then, there's a 300% tax on cheese imports. It would've been a PITA because he doesn't sell his cheese, so there's no price on it so I would look like I was smuggling in a wheel of cheese.

Getting off topic now, but that's ok, because there's nothing good about this smartwatch to talk about anyways.

I wasn't guessing. My comment was based on their upgrade program. Don't make me sound smarter than I actually am haha.

And yea, still a decent deal assuming mechanical watch means a mechanical movement watch and not a quartz watch. Cheapest is F1 Calibre 16, $3400 retail, so not too shabby of a deal.
