According to 2addicts.com a Roundel Article has been released saying the BMW NA Dev guys are claiming it will have a detuned S55; as hopeful as they probably mean a tuned N55 as you have stated.

So, those of you with N54's (seems like a few in here): If the HPFP recall has been done, is it still something to worry about? Also, is the wastegate rattle leading to turbo replacement as bad as the internet says it is?

I know a couple people with 335i's that haven't had problems. I'm thinking about buying one, so I thought I'd see if I can get some more opinions - didn't want to start a new thread haha.

I have heard they literally fall apart eventually, so take that for what you will. I take it as there is more to be concerned about than the fuel pump.

Turbo replacement is one i have definitely heard of.

I think as long as you are willing to put a bit of cash into it over time and keep a close eye on it it will be fine. A Lot of people swear its the superior engine to N55 anyhow.

The torque delivery on the N55 just seems to meh to me compared to a chipped/flashed N54.

Hpfp was extended to 180k I believe , and wastegate rattle is on all bmws I've heard 235/435/m4 with it ; the fix is super easy just need to tighten the arm, mine had rattle took me 15 mins to adjust both and all was good again, I'm at 133 modded running smooth as ever , my turbo seal may be on its way out , or sometning havent looked into it much yet but I have third party warranty so not overly concerned either way, gives me an excuse to upgrade them and I can do the work myself so I don't mind. I have also dealt with more random issues with mine and friends with n54 all seem outrageous to repair but all have been simple cheap fixes for under 10% of what people think, feel free to pm me for more info

Thx for the responses (and sorry for the thread sidetrack).

I think I'm gonna hold off for now. It was only going to be a stopgap until I have the money for a C63, so I decided to just suck it up and drive my current car until then.

Plus, with a bunch of layoffs (and probably a bunch more), there's probably going to be some good deals on luxury cars to be had in the next 12 months. Hopefully that helps me get into a C63 as well haha.
