I've signed up for the Banff GranFondo again. 3rd year in a row for doing that race. Other than that maybe the Vancouver one too but I'll have to see how work is.
I'm looking at doing a few of these. I didn't get out much at all last summer as my fit seemed to aggravate my left knee. Hoping some new insoles does the trick.

signed up for banff, highwood and canmore, will probably add badlands to the list
likely do the RTCC again if I can get enough donation
the MEC ones are very good for the money. The spring one starts a bit further down south this year at the bar u ranch. I don't think I can do the fall one since it's on the same day as canmore.
I'll probably be doing the medium race length and then full gran fondo for Banff @150km. I've never ridden that far and because of last year's knee problems, I haven't ridden a whole lot.
Really tempted to check out the Jasper one, the scenery would be unreal! Badlands I just imagine going up that giant ass hill from Drumheller

Jasper sounds cool, it's just kinda far. May be I'll try it next year.
I like Drumheller, it has some unique scenery with the hoodoos. It's like a movie set going into Wayne. The first hill is ok especially with fresh legs. The second hill after the ferry is brutal, steep right from the start and consistently steep all the way up. I unintentionally passed everyone there with the group all bunched up lol. The last hill can be bad since it's at 94k mark. It was the headwind coming back that was brutal last year, all 50k of it.
It's not a race. It's a timed ride.Originally posted by seer_claw

The lead group was freaking fast race or no race. Banff is nice since they shut down the road but the number of people is a bit much. You spend the first hour dodging around. If people can be honest and position themselves accordingly at the start it would be better and stay on the right or single file when not passing.
People seem to behave better when the road is not closed.
Yeah when you have guys like Trev and Bunnin leading any group it's going to be fast but it just needs to be clarified that it is not a race, some people just ride faster than othersOriginally posted by lilmira
