Cali is expensive, but many states are under $2.50.

Though they are anticipating an increase, as some refinery is down on output apparently.

Not at all. Call a spade a spade, don't beat around the bush and try and make it seem like "you" (whomever that may be, a ceo, the company that ceo works for, etc) have no control over it.

I have no problem with people making money, never have, never will. By my spreadsheets, there is money to be made supplying gas 5, 10, up to 20c/L cheaper (depending on volume, of course) then what it currently sells for. I don't have the capital at this time to test this out unfortunately.

So, what else do you call that besides gouging? You're argument is that the companies are doing what companies do, earn money, my argument is that the companies have forced us to pay what they want us to pay (because fuel for vehicles is a need, not a want in this day and age). When prices across all brands and competitors follow in lockstep, its anti-competitive (and there are laws against it for a reason) and shows how the companies are being allowed to fleece us.

As always, somehow there is a double standard on how businesses and customers should operate, which makes little sense

Most of these companies are publicly traded. If you think they are making to much money or that their profits are that out of whack invest in them. You will clearly double your money on chevron stock in a couple months.

Even if you factor in the exchange rate, US gasoline prices are dramatically cheaper than they are here. The current average price in South Carolina is 72 Canadian cents per liter today.

Yeah, most of US refineries are down by the gulf region. Didn't bother to look it up, it's probably close 30%. So they have a lot more products than people and ships a lot of that surplus overseas.

It took a gulf war #1 to hit a spike in 91 and price stuck under $20 for the 14 year since 86. It took 9/11, Gulf war 2, China to get us to current level.

Yeah a classic misunderstanding of how things work once again... So if you factor in exchanges rates for the price of gas along with the taxes that are added for fuel in Canada/Alberta. You will find the price of gas is surprisingly close to the price of fuel in the US.

So we are being gouged 1cent per litre?

This is ignoring any taxes on fuel in Montana but your plan to buy tankers of gas seems a little foolish.

If we factor out Montana taxes(27cents per gallon) then it's a differential of 1.02CND$/litre states side price without including importation costs into Canada. I don't really think there is much horrendous gouging going on here. Most of the price difference is coming in the form of taxes.

Edit: From what I recall posted prices include GST so the difference is made even less between the US and CND prices. So we would have 1.17CND$/litre with Montana Tax or 1.07CND$/litre without Montana taxes.
