Default HBO Now is Live on AppleTV and Roku

Apple TV requires you to be logged into a US iTunes account to show the app. 30 day free trial, can pay directly via iTunes account.

Tested it tonight, looks to be exactly the same content as HBO Go, which is every single HBO TV series, and a large # of movies that rotates, and all their sports series.

Works fine using unblock us, I'm going to assume it works fine for every other VPN/geo DNS service too.

Okay so I figured out a way to use my Chase amazon.ca credit card to work in the US iTunes store. Of course, this was after I spent $100 on gift cards...

I thought Apple had a 3 month exclusive deal with HBO Now.

    That's what I thought. Apparently it's 1 day haha.

edited the thread title, it's slingTV not Roku. Was on crack when I started the thread.

It is 3 months but its limited to "new digital distributors" like Roku, Chromecast, etc. SlingTV added HBO, not HBO Now (the standalone service).

Ahh, so Sling TV got HBO Go. That makes more sense then.

Content wise, it's the same thing. It has all of their current movie rotations, and all sports/TV content to be viewed on demand. New shows that air live pop up about an hour after it's aired.

HBO Go allows cable/sat HBO package subscribers to use the app. You activate the app with your sat/cable provider credentials.

HBO Now allows you to subscribe for $15/month to use the app. Geared towards cable cutters, or anyone that doesn't sub to a HBO package. This is the cheaper option, as cable/sat HBO package costs $20+/month.

Something that worked for Hulu Plus, at least you can try here.

Enter your CDN credit card info, address, etc. Use the digits from your postal code and add "00" to the end.

Apparently works in US gas pumps too.

iTunes doesn't allow you to attach a Canadian credit card to a US iTunes account regardless of what trick you use. You can buy those Visa gift cards though from Safeway, and set it up with a US address. Some recurring payments (such as iCloud storage purchases) require a credit card attached even if you're using gift card balances, so it's something you should do anyways just to keep a card on file.

Easiest way is to fund iTunes accunt is by using gift cards. You get the codes within 5 mins of purchase.

I have my Canadian credit cards setup to my US iTunes account...

I used the same trick as syscal but you enter the city and state of whatever zipcode you end up with. For me it was 30301 so I live in Atalanta, GA.

I just used my address at the border in sweetgrass, MT worked fine.

And to get the account all I did was to change my store to apple US in itunes then download a free app, sign up for the account select payment option none. And then I was able to get the free trial.

Watch GoT and Silicon Valley legally for the first time which was good. Looks like they have a shit tonne of movies on there and they also have porn which I was a bit surprised at.

Are there any guides for how to get other channels that pop up on US apple tv's to work in Canada.

It's just soft porn. Handy when you're lazy to look anything good up.

Most of the other stuff needs subscriptions. Hulu, NFL, NBA and NHL you can get thru iTunes account. The rest I have about half of them activated thru my DirecTV account.

If you have a friend in the US with a cable sub, ask for their login and activate all the apps. Unblock us works for all of them.

The ones I've gotten to work are:

    Hulu Plus
    HBO Go
    SHO Anytime
    A&E
    History
    Feeln
    Smithsonian
Crackle (this one doesn't need sub, just an email, it's free)
    Lifetime
    PBS
    PBS Kids
    CBS News
    CNNgo
    ABC News
    CNBC
    Disney
    Disney XD
    Disney Junior
    ESPN
    FX
    ABC
    FOX Now

It's funny that I need to keep my satellite subscription to cut the cord, but ya, I watch almost all my TV thru Apple TV these days.

gpomp you wait until the bell ceo hears about this, they have the rights to distribute HBO in canada!!!

I know some people using sling were getting their accounts cancelled for that while most others have been fine.
