Default New Prentice ad treats Albertans like fools

I watched a Prentice commercial tonight and was left thinking wft was that? It was offensive to anyone with a brain.

Albertans have to accept the reality that oil is selling low and do what is necessary to make a better future.

"F" off Prentice. I have been preaching for ten years that a bust was coming and that Alberta was doing nothing to prepare for it.

When I posted such warnings, morons would get all pissy and suggest that the future was sunshine and roses.

The PCs did nothing but sell Albertans out during the boom, and if Albertans actually fall for the new line of crap then Albertans deserve to be treated like asswipe.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Although I do think that the government needs a good shake up. Government pension reform, reducing management costs in health care. No bullshit 'health care' premium that will go straight into general revenue. I don't know who can deliver on this though.

The pension system doesn't need to be reformed, there is nothing wrong with it knowing this would require operating with facts, not scapegoating the public sector as all the woes of the world.

Sorry, didn't mean pensions For all public employees. I was referring to the government but it turns out they get some large some of money for rrsp's and not pensions. I would still like public services and government overhead to be cut.

I would like to see everyone working. No one should be unemployed unless they are mentally unable.

Condescending white old guy? Pretty much normal.

But at least it seems there are now condescending Asian guys, and maybe a condescending hillary soon. Equality afterall.

So you basically predicted that there would be a downturn in an industry that everyone knows is cyclical. I guess that's an accomplishment of some sort.

^ It's not as if the PC's didn't know it was cyclical.

Working in the public sector myself, the pension reforms would not be welcome...for anyone who thinks they are all sunshine and roses....I pay 18% of my salary every bloody month into this pension...Over 12k per year. I have friends making similar $$ and their monthly pay is way higher as they don't get raped by their pension. They tried this pension reform last year, and the proposed changes took all the incentive out of working in the public sector. Unlike what everyone thinks, at least in my company, we don't make as much money as anyone in the industry, so things like pension/flex days/vacation hours are what makes it more comparable. I could easily be making 20k-30k per year more in the industry. A friend of mine's income doubled (lawyer) when she went to work in the industry...going from ~100k to over 200k....I don't know if they are still employed yet with the economy the way it is, but regardless.

And I do agree that we basically lived like no tomorrow and saved very little. Ralph bucks was the stupidest thing that this province ever did...besides Redford

Your friend mirrors my experience as well. I moved to the private sector last year (SCM role) and received a 25% increase in total compensation.

One of my colleagues had two vacant intermediate/senior project manager positions on their team for most of last year because the salary range was too low for the candidates they wanted to hire (experienced PMs without the PMP).

Non-union public positions at places like AHS target 33rd percentile market salary ranges, and even union positions aren't quite at market average salaries.

The sad part is that all these proponents of reducing public sector administrative expenses, most of whom would never even consider working in the public sector, are going to be the first to complain when the quality of services continues to decline due to government's inability to find qualified staff.

It's a balancing act IMO. As eblend alluded to, we get other non-monetary benefits to make up for the lower pay.

I've never said that public employees (union or non-union) get paid too little. I think it is about where it should be, especially considering I personally work 38 hours a week, and get what works out to be 5 weeks of vacation a year (plus all the stats on top of that). I place great value on my personal time; public employees should be the kind of people that have that attitude.

Only way you are getting 1% rich in the public sector is by going into politics

Prentice was interviewed by Rob Taylor about a week ago on CHQR. Prentice basically said that all the other parties are extremists. Following that logic, anyone who votes for a party other than the PC's, is some lunatic extremist.

Now add to that the "look in the mirror comment", and it just goes to show how out of touch this guy is, and also makes you think of the real nasties he mumbles under his breath.

I spend time helping people that have worse disabilities than myself. Today I took a person to the Capital housing organization so that they could apply for a rent subsidy.

All I can say is Jesus Christ.

Wheel chairs, crutches, guide animal, canes, and disabled person after disabled person waiting in line for help.

Two person working during the entire one hour wait. No benches for the disabled. Just a rope running back and forth for them to stand between.

When I did get the person to the counter, the government worker said it would take six weeks just to put the person on the waiting list. Then perhaps a year for them to get some assistance.

This is the richest province in Canada?

I'd like for the PCs to be out if only to show them that Alberta can actually stop drinking their kool aid, if only for a little while anyways.
