Used Clark & Clark for one deal, also very good
Thanks for your guy's answers regarding Mackay. I left a message asking for a quote and received a quick call back. The lady I spoke with was professional, nice and knowledgeable and I was provided a quick e-mail with a professional line by line written estimate. No one else I checked with so far provided the same. They were also very fast for follow-up. I read their Google reviews which are all good except one review which was very 'interesting' to say the least. I still don't know if I will go with them as I have had an excellent experience so far but there are mixed reviews here.
I recently left my job at one of the law firm's mentioned in this thread and I have dealt with pretty much all the real estate lawyers in town. In my opinion you get what you pay for, however paying more in legal fees does not guarantee that you will not encounter any problems either. As long as you are on top of things with your lender (bank/mortgage broker), realtor, home insurance company ( if you are buying a single family home not a condo) and lawyer, you can minimize the issues or complications that can happen when you are buying or selling a house.
If you have any questions PM me, I will not tell you which lawyer to go with but I can help you understand the process.
Kahane flat rate fee.
Buying Property
$400,000 – $599,999
Fee: $1399.00
Selling Property
$600,000 – $799,999
Fee: $1099.00
Not bad?
Can you ask for a discount since you are buying and selling with them?

Shit, there's only 49 users here, I doubt we'll even break 100
Seems bad to me. Mckenzie quoted me 1072 all in including GST for a buy. 1399 + GST will be 1468... almost $400 more.Originally posted by max_boost

i'm sure you could ask for a discount if they are doing the sell too but i doubt you'd save that much. I'd shop around if i were you.
I'm stupid. I read your post and then forgot about your post. Thanks for quoting. I called them and left a message so hopefully they get back to me!Originally posted by sabad66

Nice, glad to hear it saved you some cash. $600 is $600 even if you're a baller
Thanks to one of our resident mortgage brokers Todd for the tip actually. (review coming later for both him and Jordan after I move in but so far both have been outstanding)
^^
Thank you! Sabad66!
I've used Mackay twice and didn't have any issues, they were always on the ball and I liked their communication process. No complaints really.

Clark & Clark was $1445 (to buy) in 2013. Not sure if their rates have changed in 2015. Overall had a good experience with them.

Used Thompson Laughlin Barristers and Solicitors last month for my condo.
$850 total for legal fees. Although I believe my realtor gets preferred rates.
Wow that seems really pricey. I thought $1,500 was more or less the top!Originally posted by Feruk
