Whats your general opinions on this car?
I'm looking at trading up my '11 X5 5.0 to a '13 X5M
Guy wants 40k on top of my trade... Think I should do it? My car has 71km The M has 32km
Just curious what you guys think.

i dont think i'd pay much more than $40k for a used x5m let alone trade+$40k
dunno why you even ask though, since you always do what you want anyways... like buying a c6 months before the c7 comes out for msrp when everyone tells you not to
If you do your homework then you would discover that you can get a '13 X5M with that mileage for around $70-$80k.
You can likely nab about $40-$50k for your X5. What are you willing to leave on the table? 10g?
The particular car you are looking at from Bavaria is grossly overvalued. In fact, most of their cars are.
A 2008 M3 with low KM is worth about $70,000 according to them.
X5M is an incredible vehicle. However, since you already own a '11 5.0 you would probably find that it isn't 40k better than what you have. The interiors are virtually identical and for the most part look the same. 5.0 has tonnes of power so you would likely be disappointed. Prior to my m5 I had a 550i. (Similar situation you are describing). While the M5 really is an incredible vehicle, I realized the 550i was honestly amazing. Given the difference in cost, I'm not sure I would do it again. Personally I would tell you to save your money.

Forget the X5M and go for a '14 5.0. Just as fast, current body, more features, better interior, more warranty... I can't imagine why anyone would buy an X5M instead of a newer F15.
Keep em coming, you guys are talking me out of it, lol.
btw I do think my car is AMAZING already. But owning two super cars, both 13s, and being able to drive a true X5M not just the M package makes me wanna pull the trigger.
As for the vette, plz dont get off topic, but the story behind that, was that I purchased a '10 Grandsport in the states with 1300 miles, I then drove it for two or three seasons, then when I saw the 427, I fell in love with it. So when they offered the 427 for 93k (asking 99,000) plus they paid 55k trade on my '10 grandsport, I couldnt resist. I originally paid only 57k for the grandsport in the first place, plus I drove it for 2 - 3 seasons. I had to pull the trigger.

^ yea took that outta there. lol sounded dumb
But you currently don't have one, and you're not buying another oneOriginally posted by InRich

edit: In all fairness, I do see the attraction to owning the actual M car, vs an M package. Or an actual AMG instead of an AMG package. Just breakin balls.

Why do you care about such things as status symbols? That seems to be a really really odd reason to buy cars. Then again maybe you are just more honest about your purchases than 90% of people in Calgary?Originally posted by InRich

So you guys dont think
the X5M is a super car?
the 427 is a super car?
Whatever. In my mind, they both are.
And that's all that matters. They're both nicer than what I drive hahaOriginally posted by InRich

OK lets get back on topic. ^ this is getting outta hand
I was just wondering what you're guy's thoughts were.
Yes, you don't own any supercars. Don't embarrass yourself by telling people this in real life.
A Corvette is a sports car, and an X5M is a high performance SUV.
Btw, you are getting all our thoughts
I'd say the thoughts were pretty clear. That's not a good deal on that car.

People become truly wealthy by making smart financial decisions... this is not a smart financial decision.
One of beyonds smartest members posted this a couple of years back, and I think it applies to the questions the OP was asking.

this is simple....
look at what our parents grew up in... My parents always taught me to save money, dont waste money on stupid shit, especally if you dont have it... My parents, NEVER go out to eat. They NEVER goto the malls to shop besides christmas, they DONT drive new or expensive cars, and I would say they live a very happy life. Their morgage is paid, their cars are paid, they eat well, and celebrate at home whenever they feel the need. moms 51 dads 54.
Today look at us... Most of us couldnt give two shits and drop 200 bucks on a restaurant bill for two... That simply never happened in our parents day. Everything was prepared at home.
Most of you drive nice cars.... you buy them new.... why? cars are car. you can drive a car thats a few years old, its still gonna get you from point A to B. who cares what you look like.
Heres the stats.... I just heard this on the news yesterday... the average Canadian dept per house hold is 96k. That doesn't include the house.... Thats cars, toys, trips. why do you guys need so much .... Shit if I wanted to I can go buy a 100k sports car if I wanted. but I hold back... because I wanted to pay for my morgage. because I didn't wanna worry about losing my job, etc etc. I believe most canadians live beyond their means, if a couple really wanted to save 40 - 50 - 60k to buy a house, they could.... easily... just stop WASTING money.... I think my parents have gone out to eat, maybe.... 3 times since we've lived here... thats like 23 years.
Smart financial decisions are boring.
