Default Nepal earthquake triggered Everest avalanche

    https://ca.news.yahoo.com/quake-trig...094437928.html

A bunch of climbers were killed including a Google Exec. Some Canadians are there. I remember seeing it on the news a few weeks back that a Calgarian was there about to climb from the camp. That can't be pretty.

A guy I know was supposed to be at base camp ready to make the climb and his family has yet to hear from him. Sad story as the guy suffered some major head trauma about 2 years ago and went through a long recovery with the goal to climb everest once he recovered.

I believe I heard two were climbing from the Tibet side which is a real climb. Not a Sherpa guided hike from the Nepal side.

    Wonder how they faired.

This is crazy. First they had that crazy snowstorm last year where a bunch of hikers died, now this. It's crazy, I was in Nepal in 2013 doing that exact same hike for 14 days where all those people died on the Annapurna trek. Was just looking through pictures on CNN to see if I could recognize anything, and recognized this right away.

This is what it looked like in 2013, my buddy took the picture when we were there:

Just a heads up, if anyone wants to donate, Red Cross is teamed up with Aviva Insurance who will tripple your donation. I like these matching deals as they seem to increase the value of your donation greatly.

Only thing I am not sure is...if they money will actually go to Nepal..of if it's for Canadian Piggy bank, anyone know?

    Tragic.

I do wonder if Mt. Everest is a little bit higher. That mountain range was formed by millions of years of thrust upward faultlines.

Side note: The west coast of North America and the rocky mountains were formed by a fairly strong faultline too. California, Alaska, BC are all lying on an unstable fault line. The taller and more lengthy the mountain line, the stronger the fault - and the rocky mountains are very long.

Just left the area a week ago, one morning at breakfast the onwer/father of the family we were staying with says 'did you feel the earthquake last night?' - woke us up at two in the morning.

Life is already hard enough there, they don't need any more challenges.

While all this is true, the Rocky's are far away from the actual fault line and were formed in a different manner than the Himalayas, and is the reason that we can enjoy the mountains around here, but almost never have any earthquakes. The actual fault line for Canada at least is out in the ocean and only enters the mainland once it goes down to the states

The real fault line is, those that feel a "power" need to put oneself in danger at the expense of the whole.

Climb your fucking mountain on your own terms, but don't except others to pay for it.

    ...yet we do.

That is absolutely terrifying. What a video. Getting buried by something like an avalanche is my worst nightmare

The really scary part is that is not even the avalanche itself. That's just a "dusting" from the air blast. If the actual avalanche had hit base camp everyone would be dead and we would still be digging people up...

All you are seeing there is the air blast and some light snow being blown over base camp. The air blast had enough force to chuck rocks right through tents and people though. However don't mistake this at all for the actual avalanche because that thing would have killed anything and anyone in it's way.

So... OP creates a thread about the avalanche that kills a few climbers and nothing about the actual quake that kills 10,000...
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!

This is really tragic. Devastating for Nepal on so many levels.

    Geologically speaking regarding the Himalayas:
