It used to be 40k points would get you a $50 gift certificate at best buy. now it's 75k. wtf? That really pisses me off, I just changed everything over for max point collection.

Fuck points cards. They all screw you around given enough time. I used to have enough petro-points for 3 tanks of diesel when the program started, and now I can get a pack of bottled water.
Yep, I originally was saving up for a free tire, by the time I reached it the price tripled, then they stopped offering it entirely. I haven't redeemed any ever and must have used it for 15 years. This reminds me that I should redeem my points and burn my card.
Yea, I've had mine for probably 16 years or more, 125k points doesn't go as far as it used to. Most of those were accumulated back then tooOriginally posted by Swank

Free coffee at 1000pts that's about it for me.

Shit, there's only 49 users here, I doubt we'll even break 100
I got mine when I was about 16. 10 years later and I have 211,230 pts which is fuck all conidering the Mrs. got the petro points master card like a year ago and she has 250,000 from all of the "triple points" and sign up bonuses she got.

My parent have had air miles for almost 20 years, I think, and they have enough to go to Edmonton... One way.

Not sure what you guys are expecting. They are basically giving you free shit for nothing.
This isn't like a CC rewards program were they collect an annual fee and or a percentage of the transactions.
Since you shop at Petro they are giving you a little extra as a thank you. Don't see the flaw in this. Everything costs more every year. It's called inflation.

You give them information. Information they can sell.
They take the demographic information you have to give them and then look at your spending habits. They take all of that and sell it to the highest bidder.
People get the shit end of the stick in loyalty programs.

So they know that a 35 year old person spends X amount on gas and lottery. What does yhat cost me? Nothing. So free shit imo. My personal information is not shared (ssupposedly).Originally posted by benyl

You guys still use petro points? I realized it was shit 10 years ago and haven't bothered since. Seeing what little I could buy with 6500 points sure killed it for me

Well your parents obviously don't use the program to it's full potential or buy that much stuff cause I manage to accumulate around 10000 airmiles a year on my account. This year I'll get even more because my entire wedding is going on my air miles CC.Originally posted by sexualbanana

Last I checked it was just over 11000 to fly to Nashville and back for my wife and I. It definitely works for people that take full advantage of gathering points.
We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside us.
I collected them for 10yrs. I specifically filled up at Shell and went out of my way to shop when air miles was. I never looked at my balance. Guess how many air miles you get for filling up a shell? answer = 1 .. What a waste of time.Originally posted by sexualbanana

I used to be able to pull $50/month out of petro points. It just went down last month to $25, since they dumped the value of the points for BestBuy.

The biggest thing I miss about my old place is not having a convenient CO-OP gas station.
Petro is the closest, and I fill up about once a month, so my earn rate is crazy slow, I get maybe 2 5c off cards per year
This is why BELL sold their customer info as well. Goldmine for them and their shareholders.Originally posted by CapnCrunch

I used to work in airdrie, living in the south end of calgary, filled up every couple days, and also filled up my work truck daily at a petro. I was getting a $50 keg card every 2 weeks, i havent checked my balance lately as i usually go to shell now for air miles, but i think i probably still have 200k. I miss those days.
I have been filling my work van up every week for about 2 years now (or more) and I have enough for a 50$ gas card ... so weak
Petro Points just got another overhaul, now every 1000 points you have is worth $1 towards pretty much anything. I cashed in my ~180000 points for $175 in gift cards for the Keg. Finally done with those, been collecting for about 20 years.
