Default Calgary home trashed thru Airbnb

She was told that a "huge luxury party bus pulled up" and 100 people piled into her home. King says shortly after, she started received texts from neighbours, telling her the police had arrived.

She overheard Calgary Police at the scene describe the situation as a "drug-induced orgy."

How long until Beyonders paint the homeowners as being at-fault?

The King family had to plead with the renters to pack up and leave, who she said were "just totally wasted."
Am I the only one who would have done the exact opposite?

You wouldn't have asked them to leave?

This is nothing new. Airbnb and VRBO are by far the cheapest way to book a party venue in a baller house. I've used the whole "family in town for a wedding" angle before, easiest way to get in. Only difference is I didn't destroy the place.

Google up airbnb trashed house, so many incidents like this out there.

I've considered renting out my place while on vacation or during stampede but never did it because:

    1. Laziness
    2. This

This is obviously a nightmare scenario but it grosses me out to think I'm giving my pad to a stranger to use as a motel just to make a couple bucks.

I would have restrained them until the police arrived, but I guess according to the article the police were there before the homeowners had even arrived so presumably they got what they needed from those clowns. I misread it and thought they booted the renters before the police arrived.

I don't think the cops can really do anything. You would think that this is another one of those civil matters.

I know AirBnB works on a rating system and when I first started, some owners were hesitant when I first used the 'family vacation' line as I asked for dimensions and extra towels, etc.

After I got positive ratings though, it's been easier.

    This is the reason why.

Now I assume home owner insurance won't cover this at all? Will any insurance products that will? I thought AirBnB provide some sort of coverage too, no?

I can understand AirBnB where properties are expensive and this will generate more revenue than monthly rentals but with transient nature of renters, not sure if that's a safe bet.

EDIT: Just read the terms, AirBnB does have $1M coverage. Owner may have to jump thru some hoops but it's all should be covered.

They were on the radio this morning and said they only have home insurance, it doesn't cover this at all. I'm not sure if renter's insurance covers this either.

AirBnB has a $1M coverage, but it seems like they only really pay out once homeowners get the media involved.

Wow, that house got fucked up.

I googled airbnb trashed house like rage2 suggested.

Apparently a bunch of whores turned a home into a brothel

Feeling for the owners...that's way beyond something anyone should have to deal with.

It's obviously no one's fault but the assholes who did it. HOWEVER, why the fuck you would rent out your family home is beyond me. I live in my home, I rent out my rental.

Hey guys, I'm going to use Airbnb today but I don't have an account. Does someone want to send me their referral link so I can sign up using that? You'll get credits and I get a small discount. Win win for both of us.

    PM me!

    Edit: Found one, thanks!
