    Default APEGA - Examinations

    So APEGA has asked me to complete 5 courses/examinations and to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to fulfill my requirement to get my P.eng because my degree was not entirely engineering.

    I was just curious if anybody has taken any of the following exams through APEGA; 04-BS-1/2/3/6/7/11, 98-Civ-A1/A2/A3/A4/A5/A6, 98-Civ-B1/B2/B3/B4/B4/B5/B6, 98-CS-1.

    I will have to take 5 of these, which are the easiest? Are there that I should just take the course instead of challenging the examination?

    Thanks for the help.

    While there might not be many people who have had to do the exact thing you did if you could post course descriptions for each of those some of us who have taken similar ones through our degrees might be able to help.

    Do you have the option to just write the FE? I thought apega had a license to administer the test for this exact circumstance.

    They don't have the exam simply to cover people without an engineering degree. If that was the case, you better believe I would have done an easier undergrad (somewhat related to engineering), then just written the FE in lieu of doing an actual engineering degree which, as you know (I'm assuming), was a shit load of work. And by the same token, if that was a case, there would be tons of people applying/taking the FE if you could write that in lieu of getting a degree in engineering.

    (sorry OP, nothing useful to contribute to the thread haha)

    I think they use it to certify foreign licensees? I don't pretend to be an expert though just thought I would ask if it's an option.

    Unfortunately I will have to write the FE, and challenge 5 exams or take 5 additional courses. A lot of them are bullshit, because I have already taken some of these courses (took 3 structural design and analysis courses in uni). Has anybody taken the FE exam? Is it fairly straight forward?

    Some examples of the courses/exams I will have to take or challenge;

    98-Civ-A1 - Elementary Structural Analysis
    98-Civ-A2 - Elementary Structural Design
    98-Civ-A3 - Municipal Engineering
    98-Civ-A4 - Geo-technical Materials
    98-civ-a5 - Hydraulic Engineering
    98-civ-a6 - Transportation planning & engineering

    98-CS-1 - Engineering Economics

    98-Civ-B1 - Advanced Structural Analysis
    98-Civ-B2 - Advanced Structural Design
    98-civ-Betc. - Advanced...

    Thanks for the help/input.

    I'm not a civil engineer but engineering economics should be a breeze. When i took it the median grade was an A. Esp if you have done any manual economic analysis type work in your job.

    Okay cool, thanks.

    I think I'm going to challenge the following;

    Elementary Structural Analysis
    Engineering Economics
    Transportation Planning and Engineering

    and then take some of the advanced ones in the evening at UoC..

    I took the FE Exam about 6 months after graduating in 2012. I elected to as I wanted to get it out of the way while the subject matter was still fresh.

    Straight forward, yeah, but it covered literally EVERYTHING you've learned over 4 years of engineering and studying for it was a little painful...everything from transposing matricies and basic calc. up to heat transfer, vibrations, and control systems.

    The formula book was approx. 75 pages and was actually not very useful. The exam was two 4 hour sections, but you didn't really have a lot of time to flip through that formula book if you needed to. Also, not all formulas you would need were included, and some were presented or arranged in ways that weren't useful to what you were solving for.

    I passed, but it was definitely something I had to study for.
