Default LF: Sega game gear repair

    Hey guys,

I have a sega game gear that needs the capacitors replaced. The screen isn't working properly, same with the sound. I checked online and it seems the capacitors inside are the culprit.

Do you know anyone who can do this repair? Or can you yourself do this repair?

I have zero skills with soldering so I'm not going to attempt it.

I really wanna get my game gear working again but I really need help with this.

If you have any suggestions, please share. Thank you!

    called him, he declined.

I know it may not be too expensive to get another one, but very likely the one i buy will have similar issues cuz the system is fairly old, and the older systems will face the same issues.....

    so looking for repair..

I don't think you will need a specialist for this. You can problem open up the case and locate the bad capacitors and find replacements for them. Find someone with a soldering iron and they should be able to repair it.

From my personal experience, surface mount stuff is impossible for a n00b solder guy.

Looking into repairing my old, old Phx gold car amp.

Hardest part I found was finding the specs for the original components to replace. Seemed to take a lot of searching as part#s and specs change slightly over the years or based on the original company supplying the capacitor, etc.

After that, digikey or mouser to get the parts.

Might get lucky too and find a electronic skematic online and that could help narrow down issue. Change out all the caps you figure are part of the screen.

Guess what I'm saying is the inital part of figuring the parts you need is the hardest. After that, soldering is failrly easy.

There's a kit filled with all the specific capacitors you need. I ordered it already. Now the only problem is removing existing caps and replacing with new ones from the kit.

Here is a video describing the repair and also offers a repair kit. They don't appear to be surface mount capacitors, standard soldering skills should suffice.
