Not to mention that he clearly had his bell rung on that hit when his head struck the glass. He probably should have had a concussion eval done but I guess the spotters missed it.

Shit that seems extreme but maybe they just want to hear his side of things.

Indefinitely means the NHL is indecisive. I don't think it'll be over more than 5 games.
It means he's getting a suspension pending a hearing with the league. All it means is he's most likely getting some sort of suspension.
Rage, where's a video of the reverse angle?

I say stupid shit all the time.
No it means he is either getting 10 or 20 games based on rule 40.
10 if they deem he wasn't "trying to cause harm" or 20 if it was full goon.
The league 'suspends players indefinitely' if they are 'pending a hearing' quite often. Nothing unique about that in regards to the contact with an official on the ice.Originally posted by SkiBum5.0

Yeah, the indefinite suspension just means that they don't have enough time or evidence to make a final decision before the next game, but know that he's going to be suspended. So he'll stay suspended until their decision at which point "time served" will be reduced from his actual punishment.
I think.
I agree he definitely didn't look to have his head in the right place. Just no cognition/reaction to the official being there. I would be surprised if he even had his eyes open.Originally posted by BerserkerCatSplat

Him getting his hands up looks bad but that's almost the natural reaction to suddenly realizing you are on a collision course with something in your face.
I would be interested to heard what the preds guys on the bench had to say if they were looking at him when it happened.

My rationale:
Wideman out of the lineup = Flames may become a better defensive team = More wins = Bad lottery position
Wideman in the lineup = Flames still suck = Less wins = High Draft Pick!!
Given the above logic, I would like to see Wideman in the lineup. I don't think he knew where he was going and was reacting like any hockey player would if he were being ran into.

Ooops.
I'm calling 10 games.

I find Kelly Fraser's take on this to be pretty good and reasonable:

Not to point out the obvious flaw in your statement but if he was reacting like any hockey player would why hasn't a ref been ran into and injured like this in the last 10-20 years.... Didn't I read the last ref to be hit like this was on 1996 or something???Originally posted by Quizzes

This isn't how every player would react.. In fact it's the furthest thing from the truth as we can see from the lack of similar incidents.
I'm really surprised this has turned into as big a thing as it has. Wideman got rocked, is not seeing straight if at all. Tries to get to the bench, who knows if eyes open or closed but not seeing very much if they are open. You can even see just before the contact that he tries to jump out of the way after sensing someone is in front of him. Looks to me to be incidental and I would be surprised to see him get more than 2-3 games. Not sure how the linesman is doing after the collision but hear he was in hospital that night. Even 2-3 games seems like a lot for something accidental.

He wasn't rocked. He even said he just had some pain. He was paying attention to the play that was coming his way and not to the linesman skating backwards to get out of the way of the play, onto the bench and not get a too many men penalty. You can see in the reverse angle that he wasn't looking at the linesman, and was surprised at the last second, tried to stop and turn to get out of the way.
With that being said I'm glad he's suspended. I've been bitching about his play for way too long haha.

He hit a referee from behind into the boards. It doesn't matter if he wasn't thinking straight or if it was an accident, he is responsible for his actions on the ice. He put a fucking ref in the hospital. I'd be happy if he gets 10 games.Originally posted by asp integra
