I think Boston knew Dougie's asking price to stay in Boston might've been too high and wanted to go to a more promising team. After all, Boston did miss the playoffs this year and the future isn't looking any brighter.

could it be that Hamilton actually got some heads up to the team he would like to join and Flames was one of them?

isnt he a restricted free agent on July 1st? Can anyone tell me if there is any potential risk in him walking? or is this only applies to unrestricted free agents?

He's restricted, so he can't just walk away. He will likely be given an offer sheet by another team though. In which case, Flames get compensatory draft picks in return depending on the amount of money he was offered.

Yes, he's RFA on the 1st but there's no way he's still unsigned on Wednesday. Calgary has lots of cap space to burn and will match anything. He was vulnerable to offer sheets in Boston because of their car problems, but not Calgary.

I'd assumed Boston would shop Lucic or other cap-heavy dead weight to free up space to keep Hamilton but apparently not.

Holding a shit-ton of firsts is the only reason the Hamilton trade makes any sense. Maybe Boston is packaging up a whole ton of picks to go after the #2 or #3 pick since Arizona seems to be reluctant to trade.

Hell, that may not even work - Arizona is below cap floor and needs players to pay, not picks. I can't make heads or tails of Boston today.

So this Kylington kid could be the steal of the draft. Projected crazy high at the start of the season, dropped a bit from some consistency/attitude problems and injury. Our team has shown great success with helping defensemen perform to their highest and reach their potential. Supposed to be the best skater after McDavid. At 60, he's the perfect low risk high reward player.

Not much to not like about this weekend. Hamilton is a slam dunk, our 2 2nd round Swede defensemen look great (And moving up to nab Kylington was awesome) and I like the rest of our picks too.

Can't wait to see what free agency brings. Hoping a Hamilton contract announced by Tuesday.

Hamilton extension is 6 yrs and close to $34.5 mil total. Flames pushed for 8 yrs and Hamilton wanted 5. Good compromise.

Dougie with a 5.75 cap hit for 6 years is pretty damn good! Man-crush on Treliving.
