    In my opinion yes.

Tarde 1OA+ 2nd rd pick for a Finn and a top 15 starting goalie.

You'd take Mathews, it's much easier to shift a centre over to the wing (especially a rookie that can be sheltered under a legitimate centre). Where-as the Oilers should probably trade it because they need defense not another forward.

Jets should trade Paul Postma and/or Mark Stuart and the first rounder from CHI for the 1st overall.

Toss in Michael Hutchinson for a decent goaltender which EDM needs as well.

That's not a very enticing proposal at all. Now, if you use Winnipeg's 1st rounder instead of Chicago's, they might consider it.

How did Winnipeg all of a sudden come into the picture?

I'm actually happy with our goalie situation at the moment. We have Talbot who although had a rough patch has settled in and is giving us solid goaltending most of the season and our prospect Brossoit is coming along nicely and will likely start next year in the NHL. We're lacking overall NHL experience but both look to be solid performers for next year.

The oilers legitimately need a 1 and 2 defencemen.

The have a decent core of
    XX-XX
    Sekera- Klefbom
    Nurse- Davidson

If that had a legit #1 and #2 they would be a scary team. They NEED to use their draft pick this year and trade it away.

No way anyone trades Matthews. Even the Oilers will take him - you don't trade number one overalls based on need.

If you're the Oilers, you take Matthews and it gives you the opportunity to trade someone like Nuge - which means you get younger and salary off your books.

As for the Flames...one of the two Finns would be fantastic. I'm not even thinking Matthews but what a dream that would be.

If you are the Oilers you (for once) do not put a first round draft pick immediately into the lineup.

Instead, develop the talent in the junior/minor leagues.

Both Edmonton and Atlanta (pre-Jets) ruined a pile of prospects by immediately dropping them into the NHL and expecting them to perform at an elite level.

I don't think Matthews is king to need much development, he's dominating a pro league in Europe with a bunch of grown men. If the oiler win 1st overall, they will take Matthews and trade a Nuge, Yakupov, Draisaitl for a solid 1/2 D man

Exactly. If they were picking 4-10, then yeah take the young kid and develop him or trade the pick. But if you get Matthews, you build around him and McDavid and move your other "core" pieces to shore up your D (and maybe goalie, depending on how you feel about Talbot).

Matthews is NHL-ready, as McDavid was. Yak was rushed, and I personally think Nuge was too. But enough about the Oilers.

Hope we keep tanking but we'll need to win the lottery to have a sniff at Matthews. Still liking our prospects though and I think Treliving did a fantastic job getting picks/prospects for UFAs. I spent a good couple of hours reading through the Canucks forums after Benning couldn't move anyone at the deadline

Man, the Oilers are so lucky they get to relive the same dream every year during lottery time.

They did. Chiarelli is on record saying he offered a better package than the Flames did and would have happily offered what we did to get him. But the Bruins went with the Flames deal (likely because of bad blood with their former GM).

Thats so awesome, because of edmonton and Vancouver, we can make deals that they cant.

Treliving is a criminal when it comes to trading players and assets. Not so much with UFA signings though.

He's seen lots of ice time with Jones, Raymond, Joris and the other plugs so I don't blame him for holding onto the puck a little more than normal.

Hmmm good point, but so is Gaudreau haha... Might not be a good combo.
