Chicago is definitely making another run at it, and adding Ladd was huge.

However, they are leaving their prospect cupboards VERY bare... Dano will be a player on day.

people say that EVERY FUCKING YEAR!!! Yet they are able to go after the cup every year.

They traded Ladd for a late first round pick... not to mention they still have the upcoming Calder trophy winner on roster, PLUS the big guns.

Chicago made two more trades today:

    http://www.tsn.ca/kings-trade-d-ehrh...uderi-1.444147

The Los Angeles Kings have traded defenceman Christian Ehrhoff to the Chicago Blackhawks for defenceman Rob Scuderi.

The Blackhawks acquired forwards Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann from the Montreal Canadiens on Friday in exchange for forward Phillip Danault and a second-round pick in 2018.

Well here's hoping they've learned some lessons from the rest of the league on how to rebuild properly. Or at the very least on how not to rebuild.

Well they just sent a 1st round pick and decent young forward to Winnipeg for a 30 year old rental.

    James Reimer is heading west.

The Toronto Maple Leafs sent the goaltender, along with forward Jeremy Morin to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for goaltender Alex Stalock, forward Ben Smith and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Nobody's pretending that Chicago won't have some hard years ahead, it's how many that matters.

Trading away every high draft pick you have will eventually catch up with you.

They'll complete for 2, 3 maybe 4 more years and then they'll start the cycle of rebuilding again. Those missing draft picks over the next couple of years (and last couple) are going to catch up. They're aware of this as much as anyone.

For the first time in his career, Eric Staal is on the move.

The Carolina Hurricanes have traded their captain to the New York Rangers. In exchange, the 'Canes receive a pair of second-round picks and Finnish prospect Aleksi Saarela, according to TSN Hockey Insiders Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger.

But if they keep winning cups nobody will care. They've already got 3 cups in last 6 years anymore cups are just gravy.

That's correct and exactly why they're doing it.

Ehhhhh, there's other ways of getting prospects than just going through the draft. If they make a deep run or get another cup, they can always flip players that were part of the playoff team back for picks and/or prospects. They could even get them by trading rights for upcoming UFAs before free agency. Teams are always looking for players that were integral parts of playoff teams, whether it be to improve their team or for veteran presence. There's also undrafted free agents, waivers, etc.

It all depends on how Chicago manages their players and how good their scouts are.

Their scouts are pretty damn good! Outside of the core everyone is expendable. It's nuts and they keep winning.

Why are people so hard on Chicago for selling off prospects and 1st for veteran rentals? What's the point of hoarding prospects and picks if you don't risk it all? I got nothing but envy for the Hawks lineup and how flexible they are even with their two high priced superstars.
