It was a high-flying stunt that left Calgary police scratching their heads.
Residents in central Calgary were startled to see what appeared to be a man flying over Calgary in a lawn chair suspended by a bunch of balloons.
Tom Warne told the Sun his wife spotted the odd sight floating south of their Thorncliffe home at around 7:30 p.m.
“She said it looked like ‘Up,’” he said, referencing the 2009 animated movie featuring a man and his balloon-festooned house.
Reports on social media suggest the makeshift-airship’s lone occupant leapt from the craft, aided by either a parachute or wing suit, somewhere near Stampede grounds — an observation shared by Calgary police.
While details were scarce as of press time, Det. Jeff Charlot told the Sun police were looking into if reports of a large cluster of balloons seen launching near McMahon Stadium could be related.
No information on what became of the balloon-borne craft was available, but reports suggest it may have landed somewhere in east Calgary.
Police continue to investigate.
