Hardwood floor refinish, best for dogs?

Looking to get our circa 1994 oak floor refinished. We have 2 chocolate labs that are pretty hard on floors.

What's the most durable type of finish available ?

I've been reading that a Swedish finish is best? True? Available in Canada?

Is oil based tougher than water based?

Anyone know particular name brand/type that is best?

Can't answer your question but Mr. Sandless was terrible, finishing didn't last.
Had same sentiment as another person I know who used them.

Oil based is definitely tougher, but it takes at least 24 hours for one coat to dry, and the fumes are pretty bad.

We went with water based when we refinished our 1959 floors, and honestly, I regret not going with oil, even if it means having to live in a hotel, and boarding the dogs for a week.

I am not sure if this is practical, but used in the past tung oil to finish wooden desk I have built. Had to do multiple coats and there is a bit of smell (natural not chemical). It is extremely durable (they use this to finish wooden food/salad bowls as it is food safe), desk still does not have any scratches but application was a complex process as had to wait for it to dry before each application and then sand and apply again, I thing I have applies 4-5 coats. It was hard, but not sure (never heard about it) if it was ever used for finishing floors.

Been reading more, and asking flooring people, and due to Canadian VOC laws most oil based, and acid-cure finishes are no longer available here.

The best finish now is Arboritec Avenue or Elite, which is a ceramic fortified water base.

Anyone have experience with this?

Or know of better one?
