That one is a 3 rotor 20B (hence why he's offering to buy back the engine) but with that many issues it's a tough sell.

Thats not a 3 rotor. its a 2 rotor. the cosmo came with both. its like the 13b-rew that comes in the rx7...but more power i think. It could be a 3 rotor, but i doubt it at that price. the eunos cosmos came with both.

    Ordered some goodies today.

intake port template, MED street port

Exhaust port template, MED street port

bearing tools for doing rotor bearings and main bearings. may as well put this press of mine to use.

Checking rotor housing widths. They allow .0024 total variance, and so far, ive measured .0010 as a max, most are less. They are going off to Freelance Motorsports for a "hone" soon. They wont need much, so thats goood.

Will wait to get my irons lapped until AFTER the porting process.

Should be a fun project. Hope to do rotaries for other people too. So, lets see, so far ive built ca18det, sr20det, rb, 2jz, and now a rotary. FUN STUFF!!! Love learning more.

Evan how will you perform the port? CNC or hand tools? You should take a little video regardless.

Also, how much of the horsepower equation does the port job control? how much horsepower is that port good for assuming everything else is able to make / supply lets say 1000 hp?

Jeremy wants to take a look at if he can tool it to be cut with his cnc. Im more than happy to let him try, but i figure it may come down to hand porting. Its pretty simple actually. Spray tool makers dye around the port, let dry. Put template on port, scribe lines. Hog it out, transition it, smoothe as possible. Rotor housing is the same idea, but you need to keep the sleeve in mind. I gotta research that still.

Think of the porting on a rotary, more like a cam on a piston engine. By opening up the port, you A- allow more air and fuel in, but also, B-you change the intake event phasing to be earlier. Mine is a fairly mild street port, so it would be like a fairly mild cam. Most guys easily make around 400 hp or so on a street ported 13b with a single. Alot of the guys making 500+ hp seem to be bridge ported. Im not quite ready for a bridge port yet. I want to explore the limits of the mild increase of factory ports.

Nice to see someone using proper porting templates. I know we have a couple professional builders in this province who feel letting a die grinder rattle around in there for awhile will do the trick, but a proper port job will pay off in the end!

yah i wont be doing that kind of garbage work.I take pride in my work. I dont build crap (=

I just wish i could do some base lines without the port job, vs the port job, but that would involve tearing it down twice. No thanks (=

Quite possibly, myself and my friend Jeremy here, may get together and get some programming together for a cnc port job. I wonder how many people would want theirs done?

Cant check out the housing template because they are at Freelance...BOOOO!

I gotta say, these bearing press tools are realllly nice. They give you a sleeve with both. With the sleeve off, you can press the bearing out. With the sleeve on, you can press the bearing in, and it acts as a stop so you cant overpress. Smart cookies!

    More to come!

Housings just got back from Freelance, and i gotta say, they did a fantastic job. They look 10x better, and they also blast and ultrasonic clean them. For 150$ usd, i cant complain at all.

    Before:

And after. I went along both housings with a straight edge and a .002in feeler. I could not get the feeler gauge in ANYWHERE. They are flat as could be. The flash makes the tooling marks show up, but i assure you, they are as smoothe as can be. It only looks rough!

And the exterior condition. VERY clean.

Very pleased with them. There was an issue with shipping, etc, and they took care of it without skipping a beat. Totally recommend these guys for resurfacing housings. Apparently all they remove is .0005 at a time. Very very little.

More to come as i get my side plates lapped. Im currently in the midst of purchasing a new toy, so things may be a bit slow. The "toy" is totally worth it, i will be able to offer something to the community with it.

Decided that porting is a skill that maybe i should learn. I was feeling up to the challenge today and got started. Took me 2 hours to do the first secondary. Gotta get longer grinding stones to reach into the primary port, but i got the aperture done anyways.

Done the aperture on the secondary, still a bit of bowl work to do. Gasket matched the inlet.

Primary aperture marked and taped. As you can see, alot more to take out here.

Template on top of almost finished aperture. I must say, turned out very close. Remainder gets blended with 100 grit stone

Aperture finished, some bowl work done.

Gasket port matching on right, stock on left. Hard to see but i actually took quite a bit out. The port can taper ALOT more from how it is.

More to come, went and got some new grindy tools this evening. back it it tomorrow.
