    Default UPS Shipping to Canada

Don't really have time to go to Montana Shipping Outlet. Can anyone recommend the cheapest way to ship 4 rims via UPS to Canada? I hear if you use certain shipping method you can save on some fees.

UPS Standard comes with "brokerage fees" ranging from annoying to frickin' outrageous.
The higher-end services include it, I'd double-check with them to be sure.

A friend and I are heading to Sweetgrass on the 18th to pick up a set of tires. You can PM me for details if you want them picked up.

I know there's a process where you can clear the package yourself and save on fees. I can't remember where I found that info though, might be a worthwhile thing to look into.

Thanks for all the great tips. Has anyone had experience with writing self clear on the package? Just wondering if UPS would take liberties with the packages...

The devil came to my door once. He wore brown and drove a UPS truck. Anyway you can talk to the supplier and ask them to ship USPS or FedEx instead even though it's more expensive?

Cheapest way to go for large shipments is with a freight company like DB Schenker.

If you have to ship thru UPS, on large packages i always used UPS world saver or next day since is air for USA, and did not pay any other fees when they arrived other than tax.

The way I see it is, i prefer to pay up front use the broker fee on my package so gets here fast, instead of waiting for package to show up in a week or two, and Get charge those stupid fees that did not do anything towards my package arriving sooner.

I have not tried clearing it myself, so can't comment on it.

    Clear the package yourself.

I ordered a $25 GoPro case once and UPS charged me $25-$30 for "brokerage fees and taxes"

    Will never use them again.

The only way to ship to overseas is air...

Lots of people ship by a combination of ground and boat for larger items going over seas.

Never had any issues. Usually after they make the first delivery attempt I phone the 1-800 number with the tracking number and tell them I want to clear the package myself.

A day or two later the local UPS office calls that the paperwork is ready.

Go there, pick up paperwork, go to Canada Customs, pay duty/tax (make sure you bring a detailed invoice with you), then go back to UPS and pick up your package.

It's time consuming, but it saves you the outrageous UPS brokerage fees.
