Default Anyone have the ability to play this tape?

When my dad passed away in 2005 I found this tape, and it had his name on it. I think I am finally in a place 10 years down the road that I am ready to see what is on it.

My problem is I have no way of seeing it. I have no idea what is on it so I would at least like to view it privately first.

Does anyone have the ability to play this type of media?

Is that a camcorder cassette? I'm probably wrong but I feel like there was a vcr adapter you could put those into. That's all I have to offer, or find the camcorder and aux it to a TV.

I have a VHS player you could try but that doesn't look like it would work for that cassette. Hope you find something though.

doing a quick bit of google-fu, it looks like a hi8 machine can play either 8mm or hi8 tapes...

Could I borrow your machine and give it a try?

That's what I recalled. I gotta go find it from my parents' basement.

edit: out of town until Aug 13 so it'll be after that.

If it's not too personal, let us know what's on it! I think it's cool when people find things like this.

I hope for your sake it's not a video of him trying to make you a little brother hahaha

There is a VHS tape which is hollow in the middle that u can put this cassette into, and then u can play it on a VCR.
If u can't find one anywhere I can try to find the one I have somewhere in the basement.

I think Costco can convert those over to DVD as well. If you can't track down the adapter.

Costco 5 years from now will be able to convert your DVD to MPEG4 if you want to plan ahead.

    Any luck yet, spikers?

If not, I'm pretty sure we have an 8mm camcorder hidden away in the bowels of our basement.

I might have the VHS adapter for one of those. I'll check when I get home tonight. I think I might even still have a VCR too.

I have a camcorder with the TV attachments that will play that if you are unable to locate anything else. I have just moved so I will need to locate it but my dad passed away in 2008 and I kept my camcorder for the same reason as I have video of my dad on many of my tapes.

If you can find it that would be awesome. I am not finding anything that can on my own, or someone wants a kings ransom to play it.

This is not VHS or VHSc compatible. You WILL need a Video8/Hi8 camera to play back these tapes (or a specific device).
That was the undoing of 8mm - most people had a VHS VCR at home which meant extra work to play tapes back.

Apparently after 15 years, these will start to degrade as well.

edit - There are peeps on kijiji who do this for 10-20$ a tape.

I'll take a look at my dads I believe there is a converter that will copy Hi8/8mm into VCR then VCR onto DVD
