Looking at the 2000-2003 legacy outback

HI, I'm considering buying the legacy outback. Anyone out there know much about reliability and weaknesses of this car. I know the WRXs are fairly high praised except for their trannys. Seeing a lot of outback I've found that many of them with under 100K miles need to have their trannys rebuilt. Any other known problems about this car? How are the engines if maintained well, how long will they last to?
