First day riding to work since my accident today. Jesus fucking Christ, I've done hundreds to thousands of rides to and from work over the years without thought and after one accident, I'm all messed up. I'm nervous coming up on to icy patches and a guy honks his car from across the street and I get jumpy.

fortunately the worst bike accidents I've had was when I was 8-10 years old but it never scarred me from biking.
but now, much older I can see it traumatic getting on an accident.

Anybody riding tmw to work? I might work from home or drive. Haha
Last yr I rode sub -30 and rmb my fingers and toes almost falling off.
So mentally I told myself -30 was my limit

my cutoff is around -15 to -18.
no plan to ride tomorrow, still debating on Tuesday. Wednesday for sure.

Ya it’s a little nippy outside, my toes started to get cold a few minutes away from work. I’ll be adding a few more toe warmers inside my boots on the ride home. If the forecast tomorrow is correct, it maybe my coldest commute at -40.

Here’s my winter cycling gear in case anyone is interested:
Under armour cold weather 4.0 base layer shirt and pants
Power in Motion heated gloves and 45nth winter gloves
Marino socks and 45nth cycling boots
Gore bike wear cycling jacket
Balaclava and ski googles

You're crazy! I went for a quick spin around the neighbourhood to see if it would be manageable, but I couldn't keep my legs warm. Even under bar mitts and hestra heli ski gloves, my fingers were getting a bit cold as well.

I ran in to work today, easy 14km. I only had about 6 cyclists pass me. Tomorrow is a bike day....

For biking in these temps my kit is similar. The heated gloves are great at -30 with an over glove.

Saw the aftermath of a cyclist vs car accident on Shaganappi / Bowness road this morning. Police had already responded. Bike was wrapped around the bumper of the car. Hope no one here is affected. Stay safe out there!

Rode first time since February 1st since I saw it was a balmy -26.
Toes and fingers almost fell off and iPhone died close to peace bridge (roughly 10kms 20 min) into ride. Haha
Fuck it was cold.

I've been riding / running every day. Switched to flat pedals with my KEEN winter boots, and heated gloves make all the difference.
Put your phone in an inside pocket. Otherwise 20 mins at most...and dead.

I doubled socked it but clipped in and double gloved it with bar mitts but was cold. Toes worse than fingers.
Heated gloves and/or proper winterboots would prob do the trick.

I’ve been using heated gloves for a long time now and they are amazing. I’ve searched for heated socks but most of the ones I’ve seen online have pretty bad reviews.

My heated gloves are from power in motion, and unfortunately they don’t make heated socks.

The only other alternative is heat packs in my boots, which work okay.

I haven't missed a day of riding to work in the last few months, also wearing heated gloves. I never get cold feet with my neoprene boots, it's always seems to be my face that gets cold first.

ALso have the power in motion gloves. Last I talked to them they were working on a pair of socks.
They do have a pair of heated insoles that connect to their heated vest...

Also make sure you avoid cotton socks. They will absorb moisture and will give you cold feet. Stick with merino or similar.

I rode again too and toes were blue by the time I hit the bike cage. I’m going to pick up a pair of 45nrth boots tonight. Just not worth the suffering. Haha. Either the wolvhammer or wolfgar. Anybody have either? About a $180 diff ... looks like 400g vs 200g primaloft insulation difference with the wolfgar being rated to -25.

If you're buying for the extreme, definitely the warmer wolfgar. However I bet the wolvhammer will be more suitable most of the time and if you layer properly I think you'll be fine depending on how long your commute is. Good review http://www.bikepacking.com/gear/45nr...vhammer-boots/ here, and I see they also recommend the bread bag trick. Works like a charm to avoid wetting out the boots from the inside.
