Mecs ‘make things right’ was letting me put the refund $$ towards a new bike, and give me 10% off (as it was a club night). Ridleys seem overpriced for what the components are so I’m a little heavier in the wallet but currently N-1!
Currently looking at a Ridley X-road at MEC. Price seems pretty fair for the components? Someon please school me.

EDIT - from the speeding article. "Six uniformed officers will be out seven days a week, keeping an eye out for everything from speeding, to out of control pets, to people drinking in parks. "

We have too many police on payroll if this is the kinda stuff they're patrolling. Annoys me whenever I'm at the park and I see cops strolling around. Even the most law abiding citizen gets a bit nervous when seeing police.

Decent components for the price on that one. The one i was comparing to for my Emonda was running full 105's, when i got the emonda for $400 less with full ultegra, and lighter

If you're just getting it for commuting, i'd be tempted to get the 'X-Trail' vs the X-Road, as they're the exact bike, except the x-trail comes with 700 x 36 vs 700 x 30. Be a good gravel bike too

This is nuts to me. I get it if you're biking around eau claire, but come on, $400 for 10 over? Dont i have to be going like 40 over to get the same while driving?

I have to laugh that Jeromy Farkas is no longer on Strava with this announcement, or has gone full private.. he was in the Beyond Strava group before too..

Getting annoyed of my back getting all wet and sweaty after commuting with a regular backpack.

Thinking of upgrading my bag with better ventilation, what is everyone using?
Interested on the Osprey Hikelite with AirSpeed mesh backpanel, might stop by Mec and Atmosphere for other options too.

Yeah, if you're not gonna go with a pannier, the only other options I can think of is a low hanging drawstring bag or messenger bag. I went with the drawstring bag and carry light. It's not perfect, but it beats a full on backpack.

have this waist pouch from amazon for bike rides but need a backpack for clothes and food

going to stop by Mec at noon and see the various bags but if they are expensive I'll just suck it up and endure the sweat.

I had the same issue. Picked up a McKinley northern light 26 bc it was on sale at atmosphere. Was cheap and has mesh back that arches so air flow can get in behind there. It’s decent enough for commuting. I’m sure there are better packs.

that's a good backpack, unfortunately hard to find now.

went to both MEC and Atmosphere and tried the various bags and ended up liking the Osprey Hikelite the most.

surprisingly I can fit my 14" laptop but then I may have a hard time fitting in my clothes and lunch haha.

have 60 days to try it and return it to Atmosphere if it doesnt work out.

I commute with an Osprey Radial 26. The mesh back is great, but you might still end up with sweaty shoulders.
Deuter also makes some nice bags with mesh back panel.

Cross shop with Chain Reaction for Osprey stuff.

I swear by osprey packs. I have 2 Osprey Talons in the 11L and 22L. Lifetime warranty, and have yet to wreck one yet after years of daily bike/run commuting.
Have gone through several other brands...Buy nice, or buy twice...

After 2 warms day and a cool morning, I'm very happy with the Osprey Hikelite 26L.
When cycling I can feel cool breeze flowing on my lower back and it is probably 60-70% drier than with a regular backpack.
Shoulders still gets a little warm but weight of the bag gets distributed evenly so I'm happy.

CRC is definitely cheaper but they dont have the colors that I like so I went with Atmosphere as MEC didnt have it either.

Update.. I returned the Osprey Hikelite 26L and bought this one instead at the Mountain Warehouse Outlet store in CrossIron.
    https://www.amazon.ca/Mountain-Wareh.../dp/B07FQX71Q2
The straps are not as nice as the Osprey but I like the price and the bigger size (Half the price and 35L vs 26L)

Question for winter riding.. been contemplating buying a beater 29er for the winter.
Last winter I rode my Kona Dew with studded 700x35 and worked well for the most part but I was riding only 7KM.
This coming winter I'm planning to ride 15KM along the Nose Creek trail beside Deerfoot so I'm thinking wider tires will be better?
Also front suspension is ok to ride or should I stick with rigid fork?

Have any of you seen them actually enforcing this on your commute? It's just too hard to do 20 on a bike... especially down a hill

You get what you pay for... Mountain Warehouse stuff is basically disposable / one-season use. I wear shirts and tights from there for commuting and a few items are already starting to fall apart.

I've seen them a few times. Usually fairly easy to spot...
What happens if you just keep riding?

I've only seen them downtown, from the Peace Bridge to the Elbow River. I did see two of them riding up 11 st the other day, but doubt they were doing bike enforcement on a lane
