Now that refinery Park path is finally open contemplating sticking to the Bow River path longer on my ride. Anyone have experience with biking on Ogden proper over to 42 Ave? Or I'll go 42, 12, 46 to 12th st but would prefer the direct route . Ogden too busy in the mornings for this idea?

I've always ridden Ogden to Highfield, which turns into 42nd ave. It's wide enough but I'm not a big fan of that stretch due to traffic / heavy trucks. 42nd avenue itself between Blackfoot and Macleod also isn't great if that's the route you're following. I haven't had an issues but prefer to not ride in that traffic with lots of people switching lanes.

    What's your final destination? Downtown?

42nd ave and 7th street. I take 11 St to 42, and 42 to 7th street is easy as it's extra wide... I figured ogden would be a bit of a shit show since it doesnt have as much room.

Ogden has a bike path to 42nd avenue. From there on it's kinda shitty until you get to Highfield. You could take 42 ave to 15 street to 46 ave but it's quite the detour. Ogden is 2 lanes each way so I've always just taken up an entire lane and been dilligent about checking behind me. I assume your current route has you taking 11 street instead?

Ya thats where im wondering if it's worth the trade off..get the river for longer, but the ogden shit show for ~1 km. And ya, i take the might as well be a gravel road, 'bike lane', on 11th from Deerfoot meadows from the river path

Pathways were a shit show on the way home tonight with the warm weather. I had 3 near head-ons with cyclists double wide and not looking. Saw a downed cyclist near point McKay. Was on an open straight stretch and he looked like a serious rider so I’m guessing he was dodging someone.

Be careful out there, the non—commuters on the pathways seem to be a bit clueless

Anyone got a beater 700c rear rim brake wheel (130mm hub) you're looking to unload for cheap?

    Oh sorry, yeah I need a 10 or 10/11.

Although I *might* need that 9 speed wheel later on.

Let me take a look. Have think i still have a few sets of Shimano R500s lying around.
They come stock on Cervelos and I immediately take them off - horrible wheels. Will that work for you? lol

Yup, it's just going on the winter/rain commuter so the cheaper the better!

    Anyone else running di2 here?

Di2 battery was fully charged before my ride last week. Left my bike out in the sun post ride for ~5hrs in 40C+ temps (no, this was not in Canada)
Battery exploded. Just frustrated and wanted to share. Maybe I should go back to mech bikes.

Rolled 500 km's this year yesterday. Strictly commuting since I have been so busy it's the only time I get to ride. The warm spring and lack of rain so far has made it easy to commute.

Still on the dew for commuting actually. My commute has a bunch of transitions between pathways/road/curbs I’m too nervous to bring the new bike on it haha. Didn’t get it out on Sunday either but this weekend I will!

Not really, been running a bit this year as well I'm around 325 km running so maybe 1500 biking (1000 commuting, 500 training/ rides) and 500 running for the year. I am hoping to get a few 50-70 km rides in the summer if life slows down a little and end with the Vancouver Fondo Sept 8. I would also like to try do a 20K run this year. Furthest so far is 11 but that's mostly because I generally run at lunch so I only have about an hour at most.

I'm looking to get into cycling, just as a commuter and riding around the city. One of the bikes I'm looking at is a road bike (actually a cyclocross) and it only has a single chainring in the front. Should I be concerned about it not having a large enough gear range?

A lot of cyclocross bikes now come with a single front chainring and a larger range cassette in the back. The overall gearing range is slightly reduced, but you should still have a good climbing gear and a good selection of gears for the flats. Which bike is it you're looking at? Do you know the size of the front chainring and cassette?
I find a 40T chainring with an 11-32 cassette is perfect for a commuter/cyclocross setup). You start running out of gears above about 50km/hr though.

few of us have single front chain ring, depending on your fitness, size of chainring and cassette, it is do-able.
im running 42t with 11-28 cassette on my commuter hybrid and it,s usable, a work out uphill though!

lesson learned.. ill always carry a spare tube from now on, my front went flat on my way home and had more than 5 punctures on the tube.
