I rode in today - passed a fat bike at Bowness Park with my skinny studded tires haha. Paths were really clear there though, there were some sections where I really wished I had a fat bike. Pretty good conditions for the ride in given how much snow has fallen. My summer average of about 28-30km/h was 22 this morning.

The ride to work wasn't so bad this morning until I hit the hill on 29th. It wasn't plowed so I had to get off and walk the bike up.

I haven't put fenders on the fat bike yet so I was a bit of a mess by the time I got home.

I got the fenders from MEC someone recommended earlier, didn't get wet at all. Sure is fun flying by the fat bikes on studded skinnies haha.

Did a lap around the glenmore res, it was clear until the west end. You gotta ride aprox 2 km through almost a foot of snow (only 2 other tracks from walkers). Also had to climb up the longest hill with the rail beside it, also in a foot of snow. Barely made it up without walking.

Ya bike paths in great shape. Neighbourhood paths had to walk them. Still good to get last ride in for the year.

Strava is making their little year end videos again, check your emails for that. Kind of fun to watch some of the stats (if you're a Strava user).

A little nippy outside for my last commute of the year. I took my new (to me) Fat Bike and holy hell those 4.7 tires are loud at 35km going down hill on pavement.

Yeah, I took my fat bike out for a quick little grocery run this morning and to test out the fenders I finally got around to putting on. After 10 minutes, my hands were really hurting from the cold.

I tried my buddies fat ebike and got 67 kmh going down a slight hill, should hear the tires humming at that speed!

Can't wait for the weather to get warmer than -20 so I can ride (happily) again...

Anyone ride in today? First part of my commute on the paths were fine and dandy, but as soon as I hit roads and residential areas, holy fuck did I underestimate how much snow we got and what little plowing got done over the holidays. I spent as much time pushing my bike through the snow as riding.

I rode. Had to walk all the neighbor hood bike paths then most of quarry hill. Was way to powdery for my skinny tires. Took forever to get in.

Yeah, the snow wasn't compact enough for my studded, skinny tires, but parts of my ride would have been too powdery for even my fat bike tires too.

I knew it was going to be a sloppy mess, so I left early and took the lane on the boulevards. Had a couple of near falls because of the slush, otherwise everything was fine when i got to the pathway's. Ugh, I hate Chinooks.

Looking at my strava the “Shaganappi cross descent” took me 16 min bc I had to walk most of it. Some giy did it in just over 5 min. Wow he must’ve been flying

At 6 this morning most of my route was hard pack and easy riding. Going home will be a slop fest.

I tested this one today, just over 5 minutes up, and 4:11 back down according to strava. (slowed down to look at the scenery). The guy who did it in 5 min must have been going kinda slow
There is a 1 foot packed path down the middle, as long as you have enough balance to stay on it you are fine. If your tire strays off the path its another story. Coming back down was sure fun though.

^ are u on the spiker pros? Even on that packed down snow I found my cheap $69 mec tires sinking in which made is impossible to stay straight.
