I'd be amazed if Mason followed through with even a slight increase. He was a school bus driver, he wants things "safer" than what they are currently.

There's also the problem of a loss of revenue from tickets that our Premier needs so desperately.

I hope it happens, but I think we would have better luck with a different government.

Maybe we can form some type of pro-proper speed limits union and then it will be a shoe in

Could likely make up the revenue by ticketing left lane bandits

I doubt a petition will get any kind of traction with Alberta Transportation, that ministry seems to exist in some kind of upside down alternate reality where reason and logic doesn't exist... They have in the last year years, F'd up 3 intersections on my commute home that previously had nothing design wise wrong, all in the name of safety.. Last time I checked safety wasn't supposed to get people killed...
Then again, if you started a slow to 30 campaign on provincial highways, they'd probably be all over that..

Nothing i saw on 10 hours+ of driving remotely dangerous or not a single time I had to slam on my brakes.

This is with driving on both 2 and 3 lane highways.

The issue with Canadian driving is simply this. Left Lane Hoggers

I sent mciver an idea to add speed up signs on stoney on-ramps instead of people doing 60 because they are going onto country hills from crowchild so that didn't happen

The reduction in ticket revenue means this will never in a million years get passed. If you've ever driven on a main highway, regardless of the speed limit, most people drive between 120 and 140 which seems to be the comfort zone of the average driver.

How did it pass in BC then?

After my trip out to BC last week, I noticed they've changed how the passing lanes work as well.

It used to be that, when the road widened out at the start of the passing lane, there was a gap before the white dashed lines appeared. This left it up to the drivers to decide which lane they were going in, with many choosing the left.

Now, the dashed lines extend all the way and connect to the yellow line, funneling all the cars into the right lane. This means that you have to make the conscious decision to change lanes to pass. They have also put large signs about the right lane only being for passing.

Obviously it wont fix everything, but its a step in the right direction.

Also, the new $167 fine for left lane hogs is pretty sweet.

Yes we should emulate the Euro economy.

Had first hand experience of PST craziness in BC this summer. Cars are perpetually taxed each time it changes hands. Even when you trade in a car, you get taxed on the trade in because it offsets PST on the total buying price. Ridiculous.

Same as buying privately. Taxed when you register it.
