After driving in Italy for the first time I can say speed means nothing.Originally posted by vengie
I can see this being very, very bad.
People already drive 140km/h on QE2, if the speed limit is raised, they will also bump up their speed. Then you factor in that the majority of Semi's are speed limited to 110km/h or less, and you have a recipe for disaster.
IF we had 3 or more lanes (Think Coquihalla in BC) this could be viable as the slower vehicles MUST stay right, and IF they need to pass they use the middle lane, leaving the outside lane for people who want to speed.
Also, I don't feel very comfortable with captain rustbucket, with un-torqued wheels, loose front end, and likely a spare tire as a primary tire, attempting to travel at those speeds. They would need to implement mandatory vehicle inspections.
Right Lane was doing 130
Middle Lane was doing 150-160
Left lane dead empty unless passing at 200k
Nothing i saw on 10 hours+ of driving remotely dangerous or not a single time I had to slam on my brakes.
This is with driving on both 2 and 3 lane highways.
The issue with Canadian driving is simply this. Left Lane Hoggers
I'm going to miss my little Nissan Micra

It's actually pretty good in BC. Most people GTFO of the left lane after a pass. The exception is Alberta drivers. I passed every single one on the right.Originally posted by ickyflex

So yea, the left lane hog laws in BC are working. We need them here.

I love it after you pass on the right 90% of them change into the right lane. "Gee, I guess 112 doesn't make me 'not slow traffic'".Originally posted by rage2

Boggles the mind how many people don't know how to sue a highway.

Of course, a perfectly good explanation is boring, so the answer is, it's fucking voodoo.

Completely agree on needing to enforce left lane hog laws.
They did. The study was quoted here a long time ago I seem to remember... The speed limit recommended was significantly above 110. It's set at 110 by the government and has nothing to do with what can safely be done on the highway.Originally posted by Mibz
Arbitrarily setting it to 120 is as bad as arbitrarly setting it at anything else. They should do a study, evaluate that shit and set it based on the results.

You will have two lanes free and people still ride the left lane at 78/98

I think semis should be restricted to the right hand lanes.
To go that fast, for sure I'm gonna need me some premium fuel, regular stuff just won't cut it.
I'll have to look for it.Originally posted by Feruk

Minimum 400hp to be in the left lane.Originally posted by lilmira

We need to adopt Europe's style of banning semis outright on highways Saturdays and Sundays. Beyond that, they should be ticketable for hogging the left lane same as any other car. You can't really ban them from passing IMO.Originally posted by HiTempguy1

Speeds are fine, but yes, nothing is more aggravating than a semi in the right lane doing 115km.h, and another one trying to pass him at 116km.h.Originally posted by HiTempguy1
