    Default Career Change

What are some good programs to look at via SAIT or ect? Preferably around 1-2 years.

I have a friend who is looking to change things up. Mainly due to money and a few other things. Current earnings are low 30's.

Currently seeing what I can suggest to them!

when you say low 30's do you mean dollars an hour or annual salary?

If he already makes low 30's dollars per hour there is obviously no easy 1-2 year program that will suddenly make him more than that...

My best friend just made a 180 degree turn in life going from a trained chef to a power line technician. Found an apprentice position advertised and said fuck it with the shit pay and hours of chef life.

He makes more than me now, but fuck he works for it.

I know someone who just wrapped up a program at SAIT, I think it was 2 years... and it was basically Radiology technician or something like that..? they got a job immediately out of school working for EFW, with a sizable signing bonus and something like $35-$40 an hour. pretty decent to start out. it required high marks in Math 30, Chem 30 and Physics 30 i believe, which many people don't have.. but they say it's enjoyable work, stable and interesting. and indoors, lol.

Radiology is a good gig, if you can stand it, Dental hygienists make nice coin.

Shit, even taking a course in medical records and working in a clinic is a good gig.

Radiology looks horrible. Have you ever had an xray? That looks boring. No social interaction really. Just a few minutes with each person and it's over

Do you want something fun, or profitable?

Speaking of boring jobs, I see SAIT is now advertising an O&G regulatory certificate. Sounds like it sets you up to work for the AER. Now THAT'S boring.

A lot more to it then you think. The room X-rays you are talking about are only one piece of it. Just as an example surgery often require full time X-ray techs as wells. A decent sized list of things are done by X-ray techs above just the standard type you mention.

I imagine they are trying to sell it as having been designed in conjunction with industry, having all these partners and companies/the government waiting to hire the grads?

Then once people graduate, most employers haven't heard of it and have no clue about it?

SAIT excels at selling these kind of courses.

    Like their pre-apprenticeship training

Ultrasound tech. Especially if you're a guy, because many men prefer another man do ultrasounds on them.

How they manage to keep filling those classes is beyond me. Biggest scam in post-secondary.

CBE has been pushing parents to apply on behalf of their students who won't make it into uni.

My brother went to one. What a waste of time and money.

...oh yeah, plus lots of girls take that program. So if your friend is single then this might work out pretty good for him. If he is married, well, probably not so much. I guess the other con is the whole "Male Nurse" stigma.
Dorms? They had radiology when the British was still in power?

Photography can make you $. If you're good.

It certainly is possible but it's very difficult. The market is over saturated and imo the days of selling juat your artwork and making a career are gone. You need to add courses, ebooks, workshops, field trips etc to make a proper go of it.

It takes a lot of time commitment to market and get contacts. The gear isn't necessary these days unless you get wrapped up in thinking that the best gear will make you the best photographer.

A career in arts is loved by many because it's a passion. Unfortunately that large pool has led to oversupply of options for buyers. It's a tough go no matter how you slice it. But I can only dream of being put on assignment for National Geographic, I'd drop everything in a second to have that career.

    Its residence you old man!

Also, the type of "dorms" you are used to are rapidly going away, because sticking 18-22 year old drunk, drug addled kids together for their first ever life experiences was, surprisingly enough, AN AWFUL IDEA.

Unpossible. Everyone gets into uni nowadays that can afford it.
