There's definitely talk going around with people still working that all they're doing is going around putting out the big fires first and less quality of work getting done. No complaints as of yet.

Still no slow down in work for us, so no layoffs, company picked up the fish hatchery and is digging its claws into a massive senior housing complex in the SW, despite how busy and seemingly undermanned we are at times the owner doesn't want to hire any more gr nts to help us, not that 12-16hour days are a bad thing in this economy i guess.

It's like the 80's, the sky is falling.

Probably another 10 years to recover fully.

That site/project is cursed. Heard about that at least 10 year ago. 2009 didn't start and cancelled again.

Well, if it's going to be like natural gas, we are fucked. $12.7 in 2008, under $2 today 7 years later.

That was just a delay. Sounds like it's completely scrapped now. So Shell has 0 confidence price will be back by 2020 or cost will be cheap enough to make a buck.

Sitting around waiting for the axe to fall this week. Productivity is hovering near zero. I wish we didn't know it was coming.

Yup, May was basically re-evaluating/re-designing the whole project. Now it's officially on halted with no further work to happen. I know a few people that were on that project...sucks that they are going to lose their jobs. Shitty times.

I know quite a few people affected by this, my company was one of the major EPCs doing work on it until about a week and a half ago.

    Are you serious?

If so, please elaborate on how the non-Conservative parties are responsible for the price of oil as it pertains to the budgets of multi-national corporations.

Apparently Albertans just want someone to blame when it comes to the O&G industry.

Unfortunately the blame can really only be placed on the North American market and no one wants to accept that. So as a result Trudeau, Notley, Obama, OPEC, Captain Planet and everyone else gets blamed.

At the end of the day the US and Canada have increased production steadily over the past number of years while prices were high. But once storage numbers started to get tight and international demand for oil dropped the US and Canada refused to go back to previous production levels creating even a larger glut.

The Saudis (and the rest of OPEC) in turn refused to drop their production (which has been relatively steady for decades) and the price collapsed. So OPEC and North America are basically in a battle trying to see who will drop production first. The US seems to be relenting as production is tied to stock values and is getting pressure from investors. Whereas the Saudis and several other OPEC nations have nationalized oil programs or it is owned by the royal families and doesn't see the same outside pressure. Instead they just burn their cash reserves to maintain their market share.

People who are currently correlating the economic/employment situation in Alberta to Notley or Trudeau or who infer that under the Conservatives (provincially or federally) things would be better deserve a punch to the throat.

Heard Cenovus losing second Friday's off (I know they actually work extra for it. but I doubt everyone takes the shorter lunch and works the extra 15 minutes).
