Why would you not just do a closed lease vs balloon? At least you downside is hedged with an upfront residual for the vehicle. What if it’s a lemon? Huge insurance claim? Credit goes to shit? Used market is nonexistent cause everyone is a covid zombie in 5yrs?

It is still an issue because you are relying on people to be sensible. Don't even give them an option to destroy themselves.

Some person who can only afford $400 a month can now buy a car that is $15,000 more expensive just because they can "afford it" and exposing themselves to more risk in case things change.

This grows exponentially if you increase that monthly payment (ex: $600 for 60 months = $36k, 96 months = $57.6k)
Yeah but how else are you going to afford that 60k$ loaded RAM1500.

Rates are the only reason to go with balloon. I've seen 5% gap in interest rates between the 2. Even then sometimes it's not worth the difference.

I did a 0% balloon finance on my black series and sold it for pretty much purchase price after 4 years. That was a good call haha.

Great point.. Especially on the Lemon/Insurance claim. I never really looked into leasing, but considering these potential value cuts, leasing seems like a good alternative. I guess shitty drivers should lease instead of buying lol.

Just bought a truck and the dealer listed my trade.

It’s actually a good deal, if anyone wants it let me know and I’ll get you in touch with management.

Ultra low KMs, extended warranty, xpel. Tiny bit of rash on the front chin spoiler. It’s a consumable part from Honda.

Out of curiosity, what kind of margin did the dealer add into their sale price?

EDIT: man you barely drove that thing!

I know. I bought it with full intentions of autocross and track junkies at Castrol. Obviously that didn’t happen lol.

It was a second fun car, so didn’t get much attention.

They marked it up two grand.

Any good budget DD options in the 3-5k range? Roommate is looking for a car in a month or two and trying to scope out options. 0 care about sporty cars, she mostly just wants a cheap reliable hatchback. Something like a honda fit or similar.

Deals in that price range don't usually last more than 24 hours since pretty much everyone can afford them. That is also prime territory for a dealer to buy and throw a $2-3k price hike after they detail it.

That’s actually a good deal. Somehow, dealers are comfortable pricing it at $40k and then sitting on it for several months.

Somewhat of a bridge from the COVID bankruptcy thread, but Hertz dumping crazy numbers of their cars into the used car market should cause deals on certain models that are super common rental cars.

Not that I want a car that was a former rental, but wonder what their R8's and porches etc will fetch.
