Any of you have personal experience with the Blizzak WS-60?

Not sure if it's been discussed, but what does everyone prefer for winter tires: symmetric/directional tread or asymmetric?
I've been using Nokian WRs on my car for the last 8 years. The first set (WR+) were directional and the car drove straight and had no issues. The generations after that switched to asymmetric tread patterns and both my car and my wife's previous Accord would shimmy side-to-side while driving in a straight line on snow or ice. Pretty unnerving.
I'm in just about in the market for a car and would be purchasing strict winters should I be able to get a vehicle soonish.

It's a soft dedicated winter tire. It's marketed as studless ice/snow. Could be a marketing thing but meant to give you maximum traction without the use of studs.Originally posted by unkicrackie99

During the dry (like today) it's gonna be squishy on the roads and wear quicker. You are sacrificing dry road handling for a sticky snow tire. If snow traction is the most important thing to you, get them. I have used these in the past and have switched around through the years but this season for my GLK I'm going back to Blizzaks and getting DM-V1.

All my winter tires have been directional, Nokian WRs, Pirelli Winter Carving, Blizzak WS80 and had no issues with shimmying.
Nokian continued to make directional WRs (D2 & D3) tires but never seem them for sale, just the WR A2 & A3. https://www.nokiantyres.com/winter-tyres/nokian-wr-d3
There is a new WR D4 avaliable, https://www.nokiantyres.com/winter-tyres/nokian-wr-d4/
Wonder if Tunerworks can get them?
Just picked up some of the Cooper A/T-W for the truck from Crappy Tire. $202 per tire size 265/70/17. Cost me $1050 installed. They look very nice and should be great for winter time.

Which Blizzaks? There are a lot of alternatives in that size.

The WS80's
Toyo GSi-5, Nexen Winspike stud, Cooper Weathermaster ST2, Hankook i-Pike W419 are also solid choices and have great reviews.Tires tested:
Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 (Studless Ice & Snow, 215/60R16 95H)
What We Liked: Superior traction on snow, ice and wet
What We'd Improve: Reduce road noise a little
Conclusion: Bridgestone's newest winter performer sets a new standard
I got a set of the Hankook's for mother as she's been driving on the predecessor 409's for the past 5 years.

I like the looks of the WR D4, although I would probably just consider the Hakkapeliitta R2.Originally posted by Akagi Redsuns

Bold. I like it.
So for those of you who run all seasons for the summer (and have time to swap on the fly) are you still waiting till snow or when the temp consistently stays cold?
I haven't swapped mine out yet and "forecast" for the next month doesn't look like there is snow. But that can change quickly here.

I wait until there is a good layer of snow, it doesn't take me long to swap the winters on in the garage.
I swap when its convenient. If you need a shop to do it, it makes more sense to do it early.
If you do it at home, right before the snow so you dont have to store wet tires.
I did mine last week because I had them in my car and just wanted it over with.
All swapped and set!

Swapped one set of blizzaks on this morning, another to be mounted and balanced later today. Kinda hope it snows soon so the tires can be put to use
What's the difference between the blizzak ws60 and ws80?
Ultracrepidarian
I'll swap in my studded tires on Monday, looks like rain and cold temperatures real soon and I'm not keen on dealing with ice on three-season tires.

Planning on swapping mine tomorrow, don't have a garage so doing it outside on a day that's decent.
The WS80 is two generations newer, and should be better at pretty much everything.Originally posted by msommers
