    Default Hot Water Recycle Pump

I currently have a Grundfos pump on my hot water loop. It is starting to buzz (5 years old) and I am under the impression it will seize up soon. Does anyone have any experience replacing these, where to buy, preferred brand (I think grundfos is OK from their process pumps)?

I believe it is also threaded brass connections, and it appears that the copper pipe was pushed in and siliconed around. Seems like an odd installation.

Mine is one of these which appear to no longer be available, different design now:

    Thanks

When you do replace it check out the piping above and below it for wear. The shit pipe that the plumbers used at my sisters house got eaten away and sprung a leak. It was only like 5 years old ish.

^^Thanks I will take a look. It is copper in and out but it is messed up looking install wise so I am going to use compression fittings or see what end connections I get on the new pump. No red pex or anything around it.

I am so dumb. It is soldered. It wasn't making noise in the last day though, but I am going to have to remove it anyways to see what is wrong. If I feel I should replace it, I will get FNPT connection and use some compression fittings.

Another post got me thinking about this and I found your thread. What did you do? My replacement is like $450 and I don't want to be changing it every 5 years.

Yours may be sized too big if it’s only lasting 5 years. Cavitation kills them early.

Maybe. It was dead when I moved in to a house that was only 3 years old. But... The previous owners were très intelligenté so I'm ready to blame them. I assume it was set to permanent on and they didn't have a water softener.
Even then... It should have worked for a simple pump.

I like the Watts and have had it for 4 years. I got it re-installed on the tankless yesterday (which is not supposed to work) and it works flawlessly 100%.

I had our re-circ replaced last week by Star Plumbing.
They replaced the Old one with this Grundfos UP10-16APMB5. It was $395 + GST installed.

My sound actually went away and never came back after I pinched back the valve upstream of the pump a bit and then opened it back up maybe days/week later so I never did replace it. Just pinching the flow temporarily made it stop. I think this was before I got a pinhole leak (Very common issue it seems)on the piping that I had to solder in some new pipe and added some sharkbite fittings. Ten years old now though and still working.
I did also add a wifi plug so that it is only on during the day (I know it has the timer in it but went this route instead).

Even if it's $500 and only lasts 5 years, that's $0.27 a day for convenience. Get off your wallets.

You can likely get replacements from Frontier supply. They hooked up a discount even though I didn't have an account. Paid about 220 for a variable speed Grundfos. Not exactly the same pump you're referencing but similar for a hydronic system.
