Anyone join a class action lawsuit yet?
Hmm. I don't know how accurate this is but interesting nonetheless.

I know nothing about dynoing cars, but I think that the loss of power and/or depressed figures they saw on the second, 2-wheel run was because the car was throwing a TC fit and killing/interfering with power delivery, basically trying to do what it was designed to do when it sensed the difference in wheel revolutions..
2011 Jetta doesn't have TC off/on button, IDT.

That's exactly what it's doing. Those guys are idiots.
You can't do a full WOT run in the cheat mode or whatever. It's not really measurable because it's all part throttle driving where it cheats.

So are VW/Audi sales being impacted or are they back to normal sales levels?
Audi still has record sales numbers, at least in North America.Originally posted by redline

VW wasn't hot anyway and not sure if this impacts it more. But they are putting $2K-$4K on the table for returning owners for various models including 2016. So VW is probably preparing for people ditching the brand.
Diesel recall will roll out in Europe starting Jan 2016. Americas will be later pending EPA tests on the fix.

I downloaded the document from one of the firms. Reading over it, I noticed their representative plaintiff is someone who leased at Golf TDI. It notes that they are seeking, among other things, diminished value of the vehicle. ..In my opinion, i'm not sure that lessees of affected cars have much of a horse in the race as really, you are not taking the hit on the vehicle.Originally posted by npham

If VW offered a lessee another vehicle (TSI) or early termination with no penalties, there's your out. It's the owners of affected vehicles who are going to have to live with the fix and any value adjustment based on that..

It was so nice of her to finally send me an email

Title: President & CEO
Dear Volkswagen Owner,
As an Owner of a Volkswagen TDI you are likely aware that on September 18 we learned our 2.0L TDI vehicles may not comply with government emissions standards. I regret to confirm that your vehicle is one of those affected. Note though, Environment Canada has verified that the safety of your vehicle is not impacted, only the emissions. You can absolutely continue to drive your car while we work to develop a remedy.
I offer you a personal and profound apology. You are a proud Volkswagen Owner I’m sure, a proud TDI Owner, and Volkswagen has violated your trust. You are fully right to be disappointed and frustrated. I pledge to do everything possible to make things right and to restore your trust in the Volkswagen brand.
This issue originates with the Volkswagen company and not with our dealers. We take full responsibility and are cooperating with all appropriate agencies to find answers and set solutions. I can also assure you that we are committed to making this right for you and are taking steps to prevent something like this from ever happening again.
We have set up a website dedicated to this situation: www.vwemissionsinfo.ca. We’ve also been dealing very closely with our dealers since this situation arose. Our main priority right now is to fix the problem at the core of this issue and work in partnership with our dealers to best serve our valued customers.
You do not need to take any action at this time. You will be contacted again as soon as we have more information to share. Again, Environment Canada has verified you can continue to drive your car – it is absolutely safe.
This issue is very upsetting and I am truly sorry for the current situation. Should you have any questions for me or our team you can reach our Customer Care Center at 1-800-822-8987. While it may take some time working with Canadian regulators and our parent company to identify a solution, we are committed to do everything in our means to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Please know you are a deeply valued Volkswagen Owner. My team and I want to work to earn your continued trust.
Sincerely,
Maria Stenström

I'm uncertain as to what VW could do for the current owners plagued by this emission clusterfuck. How do they make it better than before? A VW customer who feels cheated will need to be compensated to the tune of 2x or 1.5x their pain point. What would soothe the beast of a jilted VW customer? Out of 1,000 VW customers driving recalled vehicles, how many really care going forward? Assuming their milage and performance numbers remain the same as pre-recall. Were VW able to satisfy emission laws and keep performance and milage numbers, they would have and avoided the entire destruction of their car company. Expect a drop in both milage and performance. Were both to drop 5%, how do VW owners feel going forward?
I only speak for myself, I am in the market for two used diesel vehicles (2012-2015), the entire VW brand is now off the table. My wife wants nothing to do with the brand going forward, those married know, it is a rock not moved. So off this customer goes to Jeep, RAM, Mercedes and Audi (maybe on the Q7).

VW isn't the only one gaming the system here. I personally still have no issues with them.

While real world tests do show other brands pollute more than the tests, that's a problem in the tests itself as it doesn't simulate real world driving. No WOT, drive like a pussy, that's how the tests are defined, but it's simply a baseline that manufacturers can measure against. It has nothing to do with real world driving, unless you drive like a grandma 24/7.
VW went way over the line and gamed the system by running in a completely different configuration during tests vs on the road. You can not duplicate the results on the road even if you drive like the test conditions on the road.
With that said, I have no problems with buying a VW. The tests are all silly anyways. I always throw my car into sports mode, drive hard, which pollute much worse than a VW TDI would over the course of a km lol. I thought it was pretty clever what they did to get around emissions. Everyone is doing that with the eco/sports modes anyways.

Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Mazda and Mitsubishi have joined the growing list of manufacturers whose diesel cars are known to emit significantly more pollution on the road than in regulatory tests, according to data obtained by the Guardian.

In more realistic on-road testsThere is no evidence of illegal activity, such as the “defeat devices” used by Volkswagen.
