Default VW's Cheated EPA test Automaker faces $18B in fines.

"Volkswagen may be liable for civil penalties over the findings, which could total up to $18 billion if the EPA leverages its maximum find of $37,500 per vehicles."

    For real?

Like... really? How could they *possibly* have gotten away with that for so long?

Autoguide says 40 percent more emissions. Road and Track saying 40 TIMES the emissions. Which is it?

They'll be recalled for a new tune. Which will comply with emissions and kill performance.

Personally, I think it's f'ing genius (until they got busted, obviously)

There are now brand new Audi and VW vehicles sitting on hold dock side, delivery to the customer cannot take place as the vehicles do not pass the EPA approval process.

Some Audi/VW executives are going to be headless by October.

I think its clever and this type of thinking stems from racing regulations and ways around it.

It's too bad it will cripple all the new diesels once the fix is out. I imagine a lot of people will decline the repair. But if any future updates are required via fix the update will be necessary.

One wonders what else these car companies are hiding or using fraudulent ways as a coverup? I do like to think I would not paint them all with one brush, just not so sure at this point. Are the EPA regulations just idiotic? Why does Europe not need all these regulations on diesel?

I wonder if this was the "fix" for the intake manifold problems that plagued North Americans using our shitty diesel?

Well, don't have to wait for fine, VW lost $15B in stock value today, almost 20%.

History has shown they can and will cover up as much as they can as every manufacturer has several skeletons in their closet.

So anyone come up with a way to get a cheap low ball touareg TDI from the US up to here ( where it passes regs) since they cant be sold there?

Touareg R Line TDI for sub 50 k because of VW's oops. Sign me up! I doubt the dealers want to have their lots full of TDI's that they cant sell?

edit: Anyone else notice that Touaregs don't come in Diesel in Canada anymore ( just checked their website)

Actually it looks like they broke most of their links to TDI vehicles in Canada to. Does VWAG think that the EPA has jurisdiction in this country
