Default NDP 7.25% raise and Boston retreat

Pigs at the trough when many citizens are facing salary cuts and layoffs. The Boston trip certainly isn't to promote the Alberta Oil Sands.

The argument seems to be "they haven't been at the helm long, too early to judge". But every week is another story that reveals they're exactly what people are afraid they would be. The most surprising part is they don't seem to care.........At all.

Are there any numbers telling us what their salaries were before the hike? Maybe they're underpaid to begin with and we're bringing them up to a competitive salary. If we want experienced and qualified people in government you kinda have to pay them an attractive salary.

With a 2.25-per-cent cost-of-living allowance, plus an additional five-per-cent raise, the officers — whose salaries ranged between $148,000 and $273,000 a year before the hike — will earn salaries between $152,000 and $287,000.
It should be noted, only 6 members got raises, not everyone.

The raise, retroactive to April 1, 2015, will go to Auditor General Merwan Saher, Alberta’s chief electoral officer Glen Resler, ethics commissioner Marguerite Trussler, ombudsman and public interest commissioner Peter Hourihan, information and privacy commissioner Jill Clayton and children’s advocate Del Graff. The move will cost the government nearly $90,000 annually.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

I voted them, this is embarrassing, and I really can't think of any kind if justification in this kind of economy...

More info here. I'm honestly flabbergasted this raise has taken place at all, let alone much more than inflation. Quite disheartening actually.

Ya fuck that. They were doing quite well already apparently. A 2.5% increase would have been more than fair. I'll be lucky to see any raise at all.

Well they know they are only going to have one term at the helm so they may as well go to town with one in the brown.

In my company we all took wage rollbacks. 15% for everyone, 20% for management and 25% for 6 senior executives. That's how it should work. Shows leadership.

So I was trying to find the address to send a letter (yes I wrote an old-man letter to the Premier) and I found this. I can't help but just bust a gut here at everything about it!

I think this argument only works if you actually get experienced and qualified people.

Don't worry, don't listen to anyone that lived under a NDP government in another province because they could be different....
