Default Should I upgrade the beast.

    Been a long time coming.

My main gaming rig consists of:

Q6600 2.4 Ghz Quadcore (seven and a half years old)
Gigabyte P35 DS3L (seven and a half years old)
EVGA 8800GT superclocked (eight years old)
    4 GB DDR2

Its finally starting to have sporadic bootup. If it does boot, it works fine for days. The only reason it had a Q6600 so early is because I won it as a prize at a tradeshow (that would have been supreme overkill to buy outright at the time)

It had difficulty running medium settings of Team Fortress 2 using windows XP 1920x1080, but is nearly maxed out settings in Windows 10 1920x1080.

Everything short of spending a pile of cash seems to be a sidegrade.

I think my calculator is faster than that thing.

    Does that answer your question?

considering an iPhone 6 from last year is twice as fast, I would think upgrading is a good option.

The videocard is eleven generations old, but it still is around 550 GFlops.

The Quad core was barely used for the first few years, as there was no real multicore or threaded software that took advantage of it.

DVD burner was replaced three times, harddrives were upgraded to SSD slowly.

If you keep justifying the old specs then why bother upgrading?

some kind of deluded humble brag?

Honestly a netbook would likely game better than that thing these days.

Haha. I was thinking about smashing it, youtubing it, and then using the proceeds towards a new one.

But its all fake on youtube anyhow. Anyone can just get an old broken 8086 board and sledgehammer it saying it was of at onetime worth something.

Are you in prison? Looks like a prison rig to me. My 94 year old grandmother has a better rig.

The only prison ZenOps is trapped in is his mind. And he's pretty sure the bars are made of nickle.

GFlops mean shit. There is still not nearly as much support as their should be for multicore games.

A new i3 will kick that q6600 all over the floor and a i5 will destroy it.

Just seems like you want to brag about your old machine. Either upgrade or

For about 1000-1200 you could put together a complete system with an i5, GTX 970 and 16gb of ram that will max just about any game at 1080p. Price mostly depends on your exact needs and if you have any parts you can re use like case, psu, hdd's etc.

And should last you about 10 years judging by your current setup.
I could spec together something nice for you if you want, then its just a matter of putting it together (easy).

Shut up stop trying to ruin this for me - he sees serious value in a 10 year old rig, 4 years old for 1K should be within reason for him

Hey Zenops, run PC PASSMARK benchmark tool and tell me your score - curious to know:

Now that gives me a reason to upgrade. I like how they show one or two stars out of five.

I wonder if I can win myself a Hexa core intel.

Jeez, even the XB1 and PS4 outperforms your rig. :P

You don't need a Hexacore CPU for gaming. A high-end Core i5 with a mid-range card like the GTX 960 will give you maximum 1080p gaming.
