Default Oregon shooting, 10 reported killed so far

    http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/...ollege-n437051

    http://ktla.com/2015/10/01/active-sh...regon-college/

Still developing, some report says the shooter is killed, some report says shooter detained. How many are there a year now?

Sad, but nothing surprising. The gun lobby and NRA are too strong in the US to overcome without significant political support, which the US doesn't have, so this will continue to happen.

Just glad I don't live there.

    RIP innocent victims.

Reddit has links to this deranged lunatic's 4Chan posts last night and this morning saying that he will be doing something like this. What's even more sickening were all the nut jobs encouraging him and giving him suggestions on how to do it.

I wish all sorts of painful suffering on the shooter.

    And it's October 1.

    That's 1 every 6 days.

At this pace, we'll see 15 more by the end of the year.

Not sure about accuracy of this chart I got, it's 238 days and 247 mass shootings (4+ victims including shooter) so far in 2015.

Good thing Oregon is a nice, safe, open-carry state, AMIRITE? Where were all these "good people with a gun"?

    Fucking bullshit.

Once again, people are massacred in a country that doesn't give a flying FUCK about their population. Nothing will change, ever. This isn't even news anymore. It's an every day occurrence.

If someone can explain to me how law abiding citizens having guns, and how that has any effect on criminals having guns, I'm all ears.

Fact is, America is a violent place compared to any other 1st world country. I think Britain tops it in assault charges though, probably because they don't have guns AT ALL. Just like drugs, America wouldn't have a gun/drug problem if people didn't want them.

A law abiding citizen with a gun can turn into a criminal very quickly.

Charles Whitman was a law abiding gun owner for all but one day of his life.

Adam Lanza grew up in a law abiding household.

James Holmes obeyed the law when acquiring his guns and ammo.

So law abiding citizens provided the guns used by criminals. Simple enough?

Britain (and Canada, and Germany, etc.) also count their assaults and other violent crimes differently. For example in Canada assaulting somebody without a weapon or bodily harm caused would still be considered a violent crime, whereas it wouldn't be in the U.S.

as much as i'd like to advocate that the US needs stricter gun laws, we need to take a step back and look at ourselves, we have way stricter gun laws than the states, but Calgary alone; a population of 1.2MM people has had 63 shootings as of July. They're not mass shootings, but a shooting is a shooting regardless, and probably done with illegally obtained firearms.

Yes stricter gun laws may curve the situation, but at the end of the day if someone wants to shoot someone they'll find a way. We as a civilization are just soo keen on destroying each other. sucks.

but a quick google search told me that in oregon, you do not even have to have a PERMIT to purchase a rifle or handgun from a store, the only thing you need a permit for is concealed carry. Changing that first off, would probably be a step in the right direction, it won't solve the problem, but at least you'll put a damper on the issue.

63 in 7 months might seem like a big number but there are similarly sized cities in the US that will see 63+ shootings over a weekend.
