Post The Martian - W/ Matt Damon

Caught an earlier showing today over at Cross Iron for AVX 3d of The Martian, and I loved the flick.
Entertaining right from the start and had a bit of everything you would expect from a good flick.
Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 95% for Critic and Audience rating.

If you got nothing planned, Definitely go check it out, awesome movie!

Very entertaining movie. They managed to keep it really light to which I think made it much more enjoyable and capable of a casual watch.

I thought it was fantastically well done.

movie was bland, full of clichés, poorly written with a weak story and zero character development. It wasn't a bad movie by any stretch but it was just "meh" seen it all before type of thing. Imagine Gump on an Island, meets Gravity meets Interstellar. IMO they focused too much on trying to appear clever (they were not) with random scenes and events that fit together into a "plot" and completely eliminated any semblance of emotion, heart, meaning, philosophy etc. I'm sure watching it in 3D or Imax will be great so you jizz at the special effects but if you're a movie buff like I am and have seen pretty much every movie ever made, this isn't one that's going to blow your mind or anything. And to be honest, like I said, it wasn't bad, but it was bland so it suffers from the greatest of sins in movie making, "boring". Then again I also thought interstellar was another "missed the mark" type of movie. Could have been so much more. Still waiting for that one movie I leave the theater and think to myself, "wow, amazing, I will be thinking about this one for a long time". It's been a while since I've felt that. Maybe Inception in recent memory.

Thought it was a great movie. Kind of disappointed they left out some of the better parts of the book which kinda sucks.

Read the book about 10 months ago so I decided to catch this Saturday. They left a lot out of the book, shortened a lot of parts and changed a little bit. All in all I would say it was decently true to the source material. I wouldn't have expected them to play out everything in the book but the "7 Months Later" part kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

All in all I thought it was a pretty good movie. I am happy I went to see it. The friends I brought with me said they enjoyed it and they hadn't read the book.

The book focuses a lot on the calculations he makes for rations, survival, etc. - does the movie have a lot of that?

It must suck to be so critical about everything in a movie to the point that nothing is enjoyable.

If that is what it takes to be a "movie buff" I'm out.

What really sucks is giving everyone a participation medal for being "awesome".

I am pretty pumped about this movie, but his review doesn't seem that far off from what I've heard. Its like Interstellar or Gravity, neither movie should have won awards, they were "ok", but "ok" is the kind of shit that gets awards nowadays.

    Gravity sucked. Interstellar was fantastic.

    Looking forward to seeing this.

Well IMHO its a good thing you don't get to decide which movies get awards because i thought interstellar was fantastic and an instant classic. Although to be honest i cant remember the last time entertainment rewards were relevant.

Anyhow on topic, go see this movie. It is very entertaining and easily worth the price of a movie ticket. You won't regret it unless you come into it with the expectation that it should be critiqued against Citizen Kane or Casablanca.
