Apparently the unemployment rate is inching lower here in Alberta. For rates 7.1 and higher your required hours is 630. For rates down to 6.1 you require 663 hours. Below 6.1 you need 700 hours. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
This is quite relevant to me as apparently my gig at the car rental place is ending, and I'll have between 630 and 700 hours when it does. May ask for a couple more shifts to make sure.

Can anyone explain to me how they decide how many weeks of EI a person is eligible for? Current for the Calgary region the minimum is 17 weeks and the maximum is 40 weeks. Is that based on number of hours worked or dollars earned or some other factor?

How many weeks of EI do you get? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
You can receive EI from 14 weeks up to a maximum of 45 weeks, depending on the unemployment rate in your region at the time of filing your claim and the amount of insurable hours you have accumulated in the last 52 weeks or since your last claim, whichever is shorter.Jul 20, 2016

I received thr full 45 weeks.
I applied this week and didn't put in a company phone number. I seem to recall it saying I need to mail in the phone number or call or something to complete my application? It didn't have a required thing on it so I didn't fill it in. Will I get something telling me what I need to do or is there a way for me to look?
Related: Our company shut down their main business line as far as I know and I don't know what phone number I would put down as they are no longer operating in Canada. Any advice?
Super awesome, just got my ROE, and they wrote the wrong thing in the "reason for issuing this ROE" box, as well as have my end date wrong, so they are shortchanging me a bunch of insurable hours that would bump me into eligibility for another week of benefits. Fuckers. I'm not looking forward to the fight it's going to be to get this fixed.

Current regional Unemployment rate in Calgary is 7.7% and you still require 630 insurable hours to qualify for EI if anyone is wondering. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Well Good news, my former employer sent me a new amended ROE via email, and that shows the correct information. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Also, the Service Canada 1-800 number wasn't busy today at 2:45pm, got right through to an agent without that 0-1-0-1 dance we talked about previously in this thread. First time calling in for a long time, but that's a positive sign.

More good news. I've been "selected" to attend a "claimant information session" where I must present documentation of my job search efforts and it sounds like they will give me tips on how to get a job. If that's anything but a total circle-jerk I'll be surprised, but hey, I've got time for it.

You should get a fake neck/face tattoo for the event.
One look and they will stamp approved

When I was on EI for 8 months, long ago, they selected me for this as well. I packed my bags, moved back to BC, and never heard a word about it again. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Yeah, I had to go to one of those when I was first on EI (about 1.5yrs ago). Boring as hell, but there were a couple of interesting things. Luckily I only had to be on EI for about 6 months and have had mostly regular employment ever since. My claim is still open, and if I don't work one week, I claim EI for that week. I think my claim expires this May.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Had a friend who just got full time work after being let go in 2016 but I don't know how picky he was being.
I just got a part time cash job for 4 hours @ 5 days a week close to home so it won't effect my EI.
The biggest challenge I am facing is my last job was being a Team Lead and everyone voiced concerns about it so this part time job let's me get that down a notch.
