Mounting TV

To those of you who have mounted a tv on the wall. What kind of mount did you go with?

I have an older 2009 42" LG. VESA compliant.

I used a Monoprice slim wall mount for my 60 inch TV, and had no issues.
It has a limited range of tilt, but since I wanted it flat to the wall, that was no issues.

One thing to check on your older TV is if it's compatible with the mounting brackets. Is it set up for one of the standard mounting formats?

If your not in a hurry just wait for a sale at MemX. Usually 50% off or more twice a year. I was cheap and went with a fixed mount but my parents have a 40in on an arm and its fairly awesome.

Where are you mounting this? Post a pic of the subject area.

Also. ALWAYS mount into wooden studs with proper lag bolts. You don't want to be "that" guy.

The monoprice mounts I have installed were all awesome, with quality bolts/hardware. With the exchange rate being so terrible, you're better off just going to Costco or Memory Express and picking one up for $50-100. The days of $300-400 mounts are mostly over, unless you want it to say Monster haha.

I have a fully articulating slim Kanto mount for my 70 in the basement which is awesome. The ability to pull the tv out and tilt it in different directions is very useful sometimes. Especially if you need to make some wiring changes.

But it was very expensive and heavy. More expensive than some TV's.

I also have a cheap ass fixed mount for my main floor 47. Works great to but an enormous pain if you need to make wiring changes.

Neither TV is particularly slim in the first place so i don't beat myself up about that.

Yeah mounting holes is a bit of a concern, I was thinking of going with a costco product for that exact reason. My tv seems to only have 4 holes at the back for mounting, not sure how common that is.

All tvs use 4 mounting holes. Measure the width between the holes and height between them. That will give you your bolt pattern. Then find a bracket that fits your requirements and budget. A 42" would usually use a 200x200 or 400x400 VESA pattern. Very simple to install if it's just a flat or tilt mount. You'll need a stud finder, level, drill, ratchet set and screw drivers.

I have personally found the Rocketfish ones from bestbuy are easy to work with. Wait till they go one sale though l. Usually see them for $80ish. Sanus are great mounts too but are overpriced usually

I bought a couple hooks and wire from Home Depot and just hung mine from the wall, total cost was ~$12 and I think it looks good, unless you need tilt and pivot features I'd recommend this.

If you want the non ghetto look I don't recommend this. Seen it before looking at a house for sale. Along with the ghetto self basement reno this other feature was noticeable. If ur not selling go for it. If ur cheap and ghetto dig in.

couldnt find any duct tape?

i got one at princess auto for $20 that has my 70" on it.


got another on amazon for $20 that has a tilt feature and that has my 65" gaming tv on it.

Haha must have left the duct tape in my other pair of coveralls.

You can see by the stupid wall design behind the TV that a regular mount would not have worked.

You could have used a full motion mount and swing it sideways. Although that is a much more expensive option.

If you want a flat wall mount with few adjustments they can be found for a relatively low price.

If you don't want tilt, could always go with this. I hate big mounts personally and always go for the slimmest one can find. Keep in mind, that if you go with a slim mount, you may need to get a 90 degree plug and use different kinds of cables, depending which way your inputs stick out. On my samsung led all the inputs are in a cavity in the back and stick out sideways, so i can mount it right up against the wall.

This one sold at monoprice is much like the official samsung one.
