Default Fighting an Excessive Speeding Ticket

    Hey Beyonders,

According to the search, it's been a while since one of these threads has been made.

I was recently clocked doing 150 on the 90 portion of Hwy 1 outside of Banff. The cop was using the backward (behind facing) moving radar and slapped me with a excessive speeding ticket and mandatory court appearance.

This was a first offense, and I was quiet and polite... but the cop was one of those hardline dicks.

Does anyone have any current advice for fighting these types of tickets, and/or any recommended lawyers besides POINTTS?

Why? Because he didn't cut you a deal for the excessive speeding like you thought he would after being oh so nice to him?

Going 60 over, and then having the gall to say the cop was a dick? What is wrong with you?

I've done 220 on there once (or 160 over, this was some 10 years ago) and if I had gotten busted I would have probably been hauled to a cell block but guess what..... I was the dick.

Ahhh typical self righteous speeding assholes.

I always laugh at these idiots who get caught speeding through the park then want to call the cop an asshole or dick and bitch and moan and worry about their license.

Dumb shits maybe you shouldn't be so stupid and speed excessively hmm.

Well I wouldn't pull you over going 60 over without my hardline dick face on. Doubt anyone would. Not sure, if u caught up and hit the brakes, or if you blew by him. If you blew by him, little extra dicked in ur situation

160 is totally unreasonable. You were the dick not him.

C'mon people, 6 demerits plus a hefty fine (possibly $474) - y'all could be a wee bit sympathetic, no?

The Alberta norm is to resist arrest and claim the officer touched you sexually... You could still claim the latter..

I can have some sympathy for moderate speeding, after all, 90 on that stretch of road does feel quite slow. However, to me, "moderate" on that road is 120 and below. 150 is excessive in my opinion, and you deserve the charge you got.

You may get some traction out of lawyering up, and in this case, it may be worth it.

Good luck, and I hope you have learned at least two things from this experience.

Because of the potential negative outcome being substantial, I'd lawyer up. From what I heard, the judges in Canmore (which is where I predict your court date is) are real dicks.

I get some of the hate from Beyonders, but are any of you actually gonna say the speed limit right outside Banff should be 90?

Only an idiot would speed in Banff National Park.

That 90km/h speed limit is like a golden goose for the RCMP.

If you were doing those kinds of speeds on the straight stretch out to the mountains, I'd have more sympathy. But really, that's just too fast for that area. (And I'm someone who has no issue against safely going a bit over the limit)

Good luck to you sir. I imagine reducing it to a huge fine and a bunch of demerits is a good ask.

the argument isn't that 90 is the correct speed limit for that road. Most of us would agree 110 makes more sense. However, it ISN'T 110, and the heavy enforcement is common knowledge, so 150 IS excessive.

I still think my favorite Banff moment was watching a guy blow by me, get pulled over at Lake Louise. Half hour later, blows by us again, and 2 minutes later is pulled back over. This after my girlfriend said 'there's no cops on the highway on a Monday...'

Going 115 in Banff is begging for a ticket, let alone 150.

I got nailed doing 124km/h by the Castle Mountain exit three years ago, ever since I don't go over 99km/h on that stretch. Luckily the cop knocked it down to 109km/h on the ticket to help me out as I just told her I was trying to beat the traffic to Revelstoke and it was my own damn fault for doing so.

    +1

Only an idiot would speed around that area, doing 60 over no less.

There is a reason that it's been a while since one of these threads have been made
