Yeah every parent I know teaches this too.
If you're 10+ years old and think that texting is more important than looking out for cars, then yes you deserve it. (Darwinism).

If you're 10+ years old and were never taught to cross the street, then your parents should be punished for negligence but of course that's not the case in Canada; here we allow the parents to blame someone else...

Well it started off with having parents that weren't lazy miserable fucks. They taught us to be respectful of the neighbors and they taught us simple physics, if a car hits you, you will die.

Every time a car was coming we would grab the nets and take them to the sidewalk and stand there and wave. Most of the neighbors loved us and it made them smile to have us wave when they came home from work.

Imagine that! Community! Responsibility! Physical activity! All working together in harmony!!!!!!!
Growing up I did too, and if I see the neighbor's kids, they do to.
When I jump in to play, and I see car's coming, as a courtesy, I'll yell "CAR".

this jerkface in his JDM yo RX7, probably looked at this "dead end" as a great place to leave some tire, and didn't give 2 shits that kids were there, who were already were backed away and yet he decides to fucking blast through, chirping while he u turns.

I wish I broke his windshield, and if he stopped, his nose.

That is half the issue though. One of slowdownyyc's main arguments is that roads are 50 and police never gives tickets for 10 over so residential roads are actually 60!!! In sage hill I am typically doing 40 or under because the roads are narrow and no one seems to have a garage. In rush-hour I take 19th street and it is two lanes in each direction and also 50 with lights so I typically do 55-60.

Crowchild still has a speed limit of 80 km/h many years after removing all the lights from 12 mile coulee to the stadium. Stoney (while provincial) is 100 for some dumb reason. Some people say oh but winter, but that also comes back to drive for the conditions. If you are doing the speed limit in poor conditions, you can still get a ticket.

There is also a massive cost associated with changing the signs as seen from the iirc $300k to convert only the playground zone/school zone signs.

$300k to slap stickers on a bunch of signs. Can't imagine how much it would be to actually replace signs.

Stickers for changing the time on all signs (phase 1) was $150k.

Changing out all the school zone signs to playground zone signs with the updated times is budgeted at $550k.

It always makes me laugh that those with the loudest voice about how to raise kids and how to be a parent are usually those that have never had any.
You and Modelexis should write a book on how to raise kids.

Lemme know how your view changes when you have your own kids.

    Yeah, found it now:

As part of the process, the city expects to convert nearly all of Calgary's school zones to playground zones next year. New signs are to be erected at an estimated cost of $545,000, Logan said.

Not sure where I remembered $300 something from

Just read the news story about the Edmonton driver who got clocked doing 120 in a 30 school zone. This, I would like to think, is something we could all agree is quite a bit excessive.
    Will fuck off, again.

Can we all assume that any sense of being reserved and/or rational has completely taken a leave of you at this point?

Don't you know though, that if the speed limit was 30 or 40, all drivers would do that. The asshats who speed excessively compared to people who do 10 over would just stop immediately.

Change it to 0 that way it can not be lowered anymore.

Just think of the cost for changing all the signs

Buildings are simply too tall, death caused by jumping off balcony can be greatly reduced by 93.4% study has shown if the buildings are all single storey.

Actually if snowcat strapped on his camera and spent a day just walking around and crossing streets downdown it could be very eye opening
