I wouldn't be surprised if his insurance rejected the claim on the basis that he injured himself participating in an extreme sport with risks assumed by the participant. Rarely do people have the right coverage. I've seen similar (snowboarding) claims rejected by general travel insurance before.

If something like that happened to me I'd set up a GoFundMe too. If people want to toss me a few bucks I'd not only appreciate it but would be sure to make the best use of it.

I'm not really hating on him so much as pointing out the facts which reduces the credibility of his self-described financial hardship: his recent purchase of a luxury motorcycle and his plan to spend 2 months vacationing in California.

And as for the presumptuous expectation of charity, I think people giving you money is a reasonable expected outcome of creating a gofundme page, and setting a goal of $5,000.

Taking advantage of the charity of others is still taking advantage.
