Well, I'm obviously behind the times here. I've totally neglected to tap into the communal wealth available to me - I realize now, all I have to do is ask!
Help Zipdoa's 1HD-T GoFundMe Campaign
A little background:
I purchased an HDJ81 Land Cruiser in August/2015. I dreamed of owning an Expedition Overlanding vehicle for several years, and finally realized my dream. I spent the remainder of my savings preparing the vehicle to tour the NWT and Alaska, but my dream was cutshort when the Big End Bearing (BEB) on Cylinder #5 let go (see attached video).
1HD-T's are notorious for two (contradictory) things - reliability, and extremly expensive rebuilds. I was promised by the previous owner that the BEB's had been serviced, but unfortunately this appears not to be the case. I've been quoted $10,000 to rebuild the motor by a reputable local shop, so that is my target for the campaign.
Let's help save this cruiser from the junkyard and restore my dream of Overlanding North America!
Some irrelevant but emotionally palpable information:
In 2010 I crashed my Mountain Bike:
For months I dealt with two broken arms, severe knee injuries, and extensive road rash.
I worked hard to recover, but had to sell my mountain bike to pay for some debts.
Then, sometime in 2011, I was playing drums with some beyonders, and cut my finger on the rim of the snare.

Fast forward to 2015, after multiple severe patella luxations, my hand is forced to get surgery:

All these situations have made it difficult for me to repair the 1HD-T motor in my HDJ81, which just spun the #5 bearing. The cruiser is not my first, second, or third vehicle, it's actually my fourth. But still really expensive. If I don't get enough donations, I might have to sell it and take a huge loss.
If we exceed my campaign goal of $10,000 for the engine rebuild, I hope to hit a secondary objective of $35,000 so that I can restore this 1983 Audi Quattro!

Should there be any funds leftover after these two projects, I will use the remaining funds to upgrade the turbos on my Stage 3 allroad, because why make 500hp, when you can make 600hp instead?
