CMP just sent me an email saying I can trade in my ‘19 Sierra and lease a ‘21 with less options, the little engine, and pay more monthly than my current finance.

Seems like GM is less desperate to make a sale than Ford right now.
I'm still fighting this on my 2015, same options are at least 10k more than what I paid and the truck is basically the same. Not sure what they are thinking.

I’m always open minded as to a better deal, but that wasn’t even trying lol

Dealers who "cold offer" you on your existing vehicle are usually lowballing. I get hilarious offers from T&T Honda about my Odyssey. I mean, it's a sick whip and all, but.....

    Yup. Always an entertaining email.

Another good one is they like to call me every 3 months because I’m due for an oil change, on my truck that gets driven 100km a month.

Dunno if anyone else is as stupid as me and pays for onstar, but I got an email saying they are bumping my plan up on cost to include their stupid Guardian app. Called in to shut that down.

They ended up giving me my service for a year for half of what I was paying before so it sounds like they anticipated the flack from this and have authorized their agents to give discounts, worth the phone call to see what they will do for you.

You are the first person I've heard of paying for OnStar.

I like remote starting my truck from my phone

    It is pretty stupid though.

When I bought my truck I got 5 years free with the app. It ended last year and I haven't driven anywhere yet so I didn't see the reason to subscribe. Doubt I will in the future. Maybe if they had a $5 option. $150 a year is too much. Biggest benefit for me was arriving back at yyc in the winter and remote starting from inside the terminal.

Peace of mind for accident notifications is something I should consider again though in the future.

I think I got 30 days, apparently the dealer couldn’t even do anything about it as I tried that from sales.

As I said, I am entirely aware of how stupid it is. Discount takes the sting off a bit.

As long as you registered with the app before 1yr or something like that couldn't you still keep using it once your free OnStar is done? That's what I was doing for the longest time then the app stopped working on my new phone.

Not to my understanding, I think they really stepped up the monetization with the T1 trucks

I was shocked that I had this ability with my truck, given how low-spec it is.

I think Ford is much smarter about this than GM.

Honestly it’s more about GM trying to continue to keep Onstar relevant in a world that is far more connected and doesn’t need it anymore.

Legit use for onstar is when you lock your keys in your truck in a place with no cell service. Buddy of mine did that, got unlocked by sattelite. Save him a lot of hassle.

Onstar doesn’t even use satellite anymore, just a big cellular antenna.

It does a lot more things now, but the system itself is far less impressive than it used to be.

You know who wishes they had the deluxe onstar? The poor bastards who fly off stoney trail and land in storm water ponds not to be found for weeks.
