    Default Catch can?

What's the recent thoughts on installing a catch can? Browsing another forum makes me think that I should on my silverado but I am weary of any issues it may cause.

Apparently running some seafoam cleaner through is more effective?

    Thoughts?

What issues have you heard a catch can might cause? I can't think of any.

Seafoam has a very strong following, but it's a completely diffferent theory than a catch can.
Catch can is designed to prevent the contamination buildup problem, and seafoam is designed to clean it aft it's happened.

Hah mostly me screwing up the install.

If I run seafoam every couple oil changes it will be as effective while being less costly?

What vehicle is this going on?
Seafoam and catch cans are different things so i'm not sure how you can replace one with the other.
Seafoam is a chemical cleaner and a catch can is a mechaincal device to catch oil vapor going into your intake.

The Subaru guys have a good write up on catch cans here. But generally they are good for any vehicle its just a matter of if you need it.

    2015 silverado 5.3

They way I see it is oil will still get though the catch can so a solvent clean is still recommended periodically. So why not skip the can and clean the buildup?

Youll get much less oil misting with a PROPER catch. The ebay ones dont usually separate the intake from the exhaust much.

I run proper catch cans on all my vehicles and the outlet side to the engine is always bone dry. No oil gets passed.

Awesome. What brand do you use? Or particular features? Baffles, foam, mesh?

One downside that no one has mentioned yet is, if the hoses to and out of the catch can are too small for your application.
Can cause unneccesary backpressure and high crank case pressures. But if you're keeping the same diameter as the stock lines, no issue.

Seamfoam is a different beast compared to the catch can.
    IMO catch can is preventative.
Seafoam is to clean up because of no preventative maintenance.

If you buy a decent catch can the ID of the new hose should match the original. Mine did anyways.

Emptied the catch can in the Jeep today, this is how much oil the catch can has intercepted over the course of about 30,000KMs.
