    Default Twisted doughnut Fusion reactor.

Funky. The shortest distance between any two points is a curved twisted line.

I'm so happy that there are folks out there doing pure research like this. It's my opinion that fusion reactions will have no commercial usefulness in my lifetime, but turning theoretical physics into working machines will undoubtedly further our knowledge.

    Plus, that thing is awesome.

So if the sun works by converting hydrogen to helium in a nuclear fusion reaction does that mean that the fusion reactor they build will have a possible output of helium as well or no?

Amazing work by the engineers and scientists. No doubt a very cool 'experiment' with drastic implications if they can get it to work!
